im still not sure how to do this. i run the internet on one destop and run an ethernet cable to my other desktop pc and plug it into my laptop when i need to. The internet works fine when i plug it into my laptop but when i go to plug the cable into my xbox and try to go on the net it doesnt work.

also i have been trying to ftp and that doesnt seem to work either. does anyone have any suggestions?

Well the reason that you cant FTP is because you need a crossover cable instead of the ethernet cable.
