Are you sure that its your Xbox causing the problem? As far as I know you can softmod any Xbox. The problem is probobly your version of Mech Assault. You can only use an original copy of the game. If you look at your game cd, along the edge theres some copyright information followed by the part number. The version you need should have part # X08-082264. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure this is the only version that you can use. Also make sure that the installer you are using is from a good source. I've heard of people getting it from the Action Replay site and screwing up their box. _________________
the number on the inner ring on the cd is MS02301L-L1 apparently thats the only one you can use. the part number i have is:X09-00060 EN
should that make a difference?
i have also heard it only works with spinter cell and softmod deluxe so i have download sid version 4 and waiting for my action replay card to arrive in the post.
my flatmate tried to do mines with my usb pen but we fell out and i moved out and i dont have a cable to connect my pen to my xbox.... id rather not buy a 20 pound action replay card just for one purpose.
is there any other way i can connect my pen? can i not just connect it straight into my controller port?

The newer versions of Mechassault are all fixed to prevent the exploit. so the original is the only one that works. A freind of mine has the version you have and it dosnt work. The way to transfer without an Action Replay is to make an adapter out of a controller connector and an old usb cable. All you do is cut off the usb connector and the conector the controller plugs in to. Next you strip off the outer insulation on bothe wires. Inside are abunch of little wires. The wires are all color coded so connect each color together. There's one extra wire that isnt used. I used electrical tape to cover each individual wire then taped them all together. Now you can connect your controller to your PC through usb. Now all you need to do is grab the Action Replay software off the net (availible at the action replay website for free) and with a memory card you can transfer files off your PC to your Xbox. There is also a driver out there so that you can use your Xbox controller as a PC controller. _________________
