Sorry for all the posts, I am learning as I go here. Installing tha soft mod (EvoultionX V+393) and XBMC was fairly easy. It makes me want to do more stuff. I have been reading alot about adding a larger HDD, and being a patient guy, I think i might be able to do this. 2 questions though:
1. Why do i want to do this? I don't mind load times, as long as the game is fun.
2. will this cause overheating or risk of this happening?

thank you,
BDX3

Ok to answer your first question, you can save all of your games on the hdd, plus emulators + roms, music, videos, applications, etc. With a stock hdd his stuff might take up all of your space, depending on what all you have on there.

2.It shouldnt, even if it does, u can controll the fan speed, just turn it up! But the HDD should not overheat your xbox!!!!

Here we go again.

If I am lucky enough to get a larger hard drive that is compatible, I always see that I am supposed to back up my eeprom. there was a tool when I installed EvoultionX V+393 that gave me this option and I did so. Now when I replace the HD, do I back this up to somewhere else? If so, where and how?

The replacement of the HD part seems like something I can handle. I have read tutorials on this. It is the preperation for the installation that has me worried. Any help would be great.

Learning how to mod and lovin it

i hope your not considering to upgrade the hard drive using evox because thats old and im sure nobody hasn any refrense on that , look for a tut on upgrading hard drives using a pc , as long as you have your eeprom.bin ( eeprom) thats all you need to lock the new hard drive so yes you need a lockable hard drive since you cannot get the eeprom.bin via evox your going to have to ftp to transfer the eeprom.bin and any stuff you want from the stock hard drive to your pc

I will be using xboxhdm v1.9 and my FTP with my PC to do this.
If I follow the tut, it seems fairly simple. I am just afraid I will totaly mess up my Xbox.
I am also finding it frustrating to find a compatable HD at local retailers. I live in Minneapolis and have been using the web site:
http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/?p=list&PHPSESSID=1590d85690975e20c73e5fb1d683a900
as a guide, but every time i type in the model number that is in stock, it come up as unlockable. Of course I am trying to keep cost to a minimum.
Would a refurbished HD work?

any suggestions?

as long as its a new maxtor you'll be fine and as long as you have your eeprom.bin your xbox is saved , but remember it has to be the exact eeprom if it isnt ( for instense if you get it from another xbox) then it will throw in error code 06 if its the wrong eeprom but if you got it from your xbox your A ok Razz .

The good news is I have a brand new working hard drive on my xbox. It is 80 gig. Nothing to brag about except for the fact I did it myself.
The bad news is: Being a noob, I backed up my eeprom, but none of my drives. Easy enough to re install the softmod, but I lost all my game saves.
I did not unlock the stock HD before I took it out. Other than redoing the whole HD nistall again, is ther anything I can do to get them back? If not, I guess I'll just have to replay all my games.
