OK so I am new when it comes to this. I hope I put this in the right forum. I succesfully installed the soft mod with SID4. The Evolution X Dashboard is up. EvoultionX V+393 is what I see on the screen. The power button is glowing orange. When I highlight Play Game/Media fron DVD I can not play a DVD or DVD-R. Being new, I thought that I would be able to play these on the XBOX now. Can anyone advise on this please? I may need specific directions to do this (hold my hand so to spaeak) Any help will be appreciated.

how old is your xbox......?
Some dvd drives when thay get old and dirty will only play origanal Games...
mabe try cleaning the lens.....
!! Do you know what dvd drive you have...?
I have a samsung 605f and that will not play dvd-wr's.. _________________

The system is about 3 years old. I don't know what the DVD drive is. It is the one that came standard with the system. Sounds like I need to get a new DVD drive. Any inexpensive suggestions? Is this fairly easy to install?

After doing a little research I discovered I have the Thompson Drive. I also do not have any DVD dongle/remote either. That may be why I can't even play movies on the console. I figure I have 4 options. Which one do you think is best?
1: purchse the DVD remote for Xbox. $10-15 used. I can play the movies, but will this allow me to play the dvd-r?
2:i have downloaded XBMC and with a little effort, I think I can install this on the xbox. $10 for cross over cable. Will this allow me to play these without purchasing the above?
3: I live close to a shop that does mods. They have a Samsung drive for $59.
a: Install this myself? I have done this many times with a PC.
b:have them install it it?
4: screw it all and save my money for a 360.

First of all i would go with number two and get XBMC....
iuse that and it's great...
if not 3 and or 4 sounds good.......
try to get the samsung 605b it play's more media.....but the 605f is good too
Is it just films you cant watch or can't you play backed up games too.....?
Oh p.s. you dont need a dongle and DVD remote for Xbox when you soft mod mate....

I only have the soft mod. I used Action Replay and Splinter Cell to do this. I have no other software installed on the xbox. I have not set up ftp yet. That is my next step I guess. I found lots of tutorials on how to do this. I am going to purchase a crossover cable today. Any suggestions on how to make this as simple as possible? I am afraid I will totally mess up my console. And yes, I want to play back up games on the system.

honestly, i would save money for 360, u will enjoy this system more than you think. Not only that but there are some mods for it already and they def will progress with modding and the 360 very soon. that's why i think you need DVD X or XBMC to play films...........
Try to install one of them as an app.... and i think it will work
P.S. Download AID3.10 and make an ISO DVD This will make things alot easyer for you mate...... _________________
