First off, please don't flame me or direct me to the search page. I'm doing the best I can trying to absorb all this info. Since we have recently moved to the stix, the only internet connection I have access to worth a damn is at work so I'm limited as to how much time I can spend reading through all the posts. I'm sure most of you can understand that. From what I have been able to read so far, this site is more helpful than most anyway.
Next, I am a computer geek. Opening up an xBox or trying my hand at soldering does not give me the willies. At work, I have access to lots and lots of parts just laying around to create the perfect Frankenstein.
Now that you know about me, this is what I want to do. My son is 6 and quite frankly could kick anyone's butt on Star Wars Battlefront II. He worships his xBox. Loves it. Loves to play it and when he's not playing it, he likes to watch me play it. I would like to take the stock xBox that he has now, bring it here to work, tweak the hell out of it, set it up in his room for Christmas then blame it all on Santa.
Where oh where to start?? What would you do??
I know I'd like for him to be able to access the games he plays most often from the hard drive.
I'd like to replace what I can (DVD drive, cables, etc) with higher quality.
I'm open to chipping or soft-modding since we don't have broadband at the house and Live is not an option in the near future.
I'd like for him to be able to watch movies and listen to music from it.
I'd like to hard wire some good wireless controllers.
In our old house, he had a bunk bed that was like a cave. He would spend hours in there with his xBox and it was really cool when it was dark. I would love to figure out a way to attach an flat screen monitor to the upper bed that could tilt out of the way when not in use. Can anyone recommend a screen and a way to hang it??
I'd like to mod the outside with lots of light in a Star Wars or Pirate theme.
For my purposes, I'd like to be able to hook my laptop to it. He has a computer too. Is there any functions that can be accomplished by hooking his PC to the xBox?
I would love to be able to find any updates, extras, add-ons for Star Wars Battlefront so that he could play new levels. I understand there are some but you need Live to download them. Anyone know where to get them?
So guys, bring on the ideas. Can you help me? Point me in the right direction? I look forward to your insight.
Thanks again all!!

First of all, welcome to the site. This is the most easy going group of people, so feel free to ask anything. No one will ever flame you.
To start, the xbox live content for the SWbf2 levels is copywritten, so we can't provide the files or links legally.
Now about what you will need: if you want to go by way of modchip, I suggest either a xenium ice/gold or and xecuter 3. There are other cheaper chips that will do the same functions, but those two allow for greater capabilities. Softmodding will also give you the same outcome, but can be a hassle to change your dashboard or upgrade to a bigger harddrive. Also, if you somehow mess up the file stucture with a softmod, you would possibly need a chip to fix it. So I would just start with buying a chip.
Next, you probably are going to want a huge harddrive to store your media and backup your game to. Games usually average around 3 gigs, sometimes more, sometimes less. I like the 250g size, as it can hold all my favorite games and movies, and still have some room to spare.
The TV situation, I would suggest a small lcd screen that can be easily mounted with the proper wall mount. I was just a my local electronic chain store and saw a mount that had like an arm on it that could be positioned many ways, very cool. (I didn't notice brand name or price, because I wasn't shopping for one)
About the xbox cosmetics, I went over to ebay and searched for "xbox skin star", and found some nice looking star wars skins. Another thing that might look good with a star wars skin would be some controller port lights.
Damn, I wish my dad would do something like that for me at Christmas _________________
