i found an xbox the other day at a friends house that he said was broke...i dont have a xbox anymore so i am hoing to use it with a new hard drive...n e wayz...the xbox wont load retail games and just stays at error 5 screen after xbox intro...what is this???(maybe its been softmodded already) all i really wanna do is prepare a new hard drive to put in it but i will have to get the eeprom off the one that says error5 right???how would i do that if i cant load games or ftp to it???i guess i just need help fixing the error 5 xbox...

As for your xbox problem, get a modchip, error 5 means that the harddrive is unlocked, with out the eeprom backup you have to use the mod chip. The xbox harddrive has to be locked to the xbox motherboard in order to work or play games. _________________

im not exactly a nood here...i can handle some hardware as well as some soft...im just fairly new to the xbox thing...so if there is a technical method you could recommend that would be great...i just really didnt want to get a chip...
