I haven't come across anything, albeit I haven't searched for it specifically, but can you change the DVD drive in the Xbox?
IIRC I saw a small comment that changing the DVD drive would speed up file transfers from Disc.
Is this true?
If so what is the maximum speed?
Should I just drop a 16x DVD drive in it?
Is there a tutorial about transfering the xbox drive tray front to another drive?
Are there any specific drives/brands recommended?
Thanks for the help

There are, but putting in a PC dvd rom isn't all that great. It can read lots of media type, but not original games. Are you having problems with your current drive? _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

Nope, not having a problem.
My tranfer speed for backing up games tops out at about 4MBps.
IIRC this is around 4~8x, correct?
I was just thinking that a 16x drive would speed this up a bit.
But I guess if it wo't read game disks then i shouldn't change it. LOL

there is a neat little hack that allows an LG8164 pc dvd rom to be used in an xbox. i have already completed this project myself and its well worth doing. With a flash update the drive will read xbox game discs too.

Out of the generic 3 drives (the Thompson, Philips and Samsung) which drive is the best, giving least read errors?
Avoiding the LG drive for the mo. _________________ Chimp Tutorial
