Hi All,
I'm a newbie to modding and a newbie to forums, so please excuse me if I'm doing something wrong.

I have an XBOX that has worked fine for years, the last few weeks strange things have started happening ie slow startup and game saves disappearing etc. Yesterday when I turned it on it just displayed the XBOX splash screen then froze, the eject light starts flashing red/green after a minute or so.

I haven't modded the machine in anyway, (however now I'm considering it). From what I can see around, it's either dodgy data on the HDD, or it is failing altogether. I have disconnected the DVD drive power lead to eliminate that, however got the same problem.

I have a spare 120GB drive I can install, If I can somehow get things back to normal, I have looked at softmodding options however, I can't get say splinter cell to run to complete the softmodding process.

Is there anyway of recovering a workable system to play games etc??, I'm definately willing to softmod it, but am not to sure about chipping it at this stage.

Please help, it's actually my boys (4yo), and his driving me nuts. The lighter side to this could be a new 360 if I can't recover the xbox.

Well, for one your gonna need to get a mod-chip, because a softmod is out of the question, the reason is the tsop in the xbox, is starting or already has failed, and the reason for the modchip is to bypass the tsop and eeprom (eeprom is what is needed to lock and unlock the xbox harddrive.)

There are solderless installs for mod-chips, so you dont have to worry about soldering anything. And by doing this it will enable you to upgrade the harddrive as well.
