Hey all,
I've been trolling around trying to find a definitive answer to this but came up blank: is it possible to get large drive support (>137 GB) in a softmodded box?
Some posts say it's supported after flashing a new BIOS, but that sounds like a modchip kinda operation.
Thanks in advance

Yes, a softmod can indeed handle a large HDD. You are also correct that when you hear anything about changing the bios, it's referring to a chipped box. _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

Cool, thanks for clearing that up. I'll be plugging in my 160G drive tonight and seeing how that goes. Finally some room to put some games and videos!

It looks like there's still something I need to do to see all the space on a large drive. I built a 160GB drive, plugged it in, and am seeing ~160 gigs.
When you say that a softmodded box will handle a large HDD, do you mean that all of the space in the drive would be seen, or just that it would work? Maybe I misunderstood what you meant.
thanks,

Also keep in mind that the 160GB value was calculated with decimal values, not binary:

ooops. I'm not good at typing apparently: my system is seeing ~135 gigs, not ~160 as I posted before.
I created and formatted an F drive, and that guy is aroung 128 gigs.
Greven, I understand your point about realizing what 160GB actually means. BTW, I don't understand why drive manufacturers call a gigabyte=1,000 MB, when the rest of us call a gigabyte=1,024 MB. When I buy a 1 GB memory DIMM, I'm buying 1024^3 bytes, but if I bought a 1 GB drive, it would be 1000*1024^2 bytes.....But I digress...
In any case, it looks like I'm bumping up against 137GB and can't quite figure out why.
Is there maybe a limit on partition size from xboxhdm? , like maybe I need to allocate a new drive for the rest of the space?

Make sure your certain dash's storage options have allowed the G drive ("Use G Drive? YES") then after you've verified that, go and format it using some kind of formatting option (perhaps UnleashX's built in formatting menu). _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."
