I popped the sucker into my xbox, and it did what I expected: formatted the disk. (I'm wondering if it did it properly, though: it does show up in the MS dash, but I'm unable to copy any of my KOTOR saved games onto it - don't know if that's normal, it's my first xbox.)
But I tried to copy a test saved game over, and it failed, saying it was too large (how it would fit on the AR 8mb and not my 128mb, I don't know!)
Now it won't detect the drive at all, though!
Is this method unreliable? Do I just need to splurge and get the whole AR kit? I read that the AR mem cards were unreliable, too. Would I also have to go buy a M$ one?
Sorry for the lengthy first post
P.S.
The irony here is that I'm a computer science major.

Hi stramoski, and welcome.
This method definitely works, I've done it repeatedly.
Couple things come to mind though: Can you uninstall the driver and retry? I originally had a similar problem due to this, and it was due to me putting in the IDs for another USB device.
If you put the USB device back into the xbox, does it say how many open blocks it has?
Do you have an alternate USB memory stick you could test with? Its possible that you specific drive switched chips in production to something that won't work. Happened to my Sandisk. _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

I'll check when I get home (working nights) on the blocks and the uninstall/reinstall driver.
I've got one other "stick" that I tested with, and it didn't work either. My sony camera was detected and formatted by the xbox (it's got a 512 duo stick in it), but it wasn't detected by action replay either.
And is was a pain to format back, but that's another story... I'm lucky I have debian linux installed on my pc.
I also found http://www.eurogamer.net/forum_thread_posts.php?thread_id=28592&forum_id=1
this thread, with google, which has a "hacked" version of AR... Is that even worth looking at, or will the vanilla AR software work ok?
I'll post back with the # of blocks when I get home.
Thanks for the fast reply, Greven!
