Just keep wiggling it back-and-forth, back-and-forth!

Eventually, it'll come off!

They are pretty tough! I found that if I grab the cable and the plastic end on one side while holding the case down I can get it pretty loose, and then just move on to the other side.

Don't worry about the cable, they are pretty tough, not too mention pretty cheap if you have to replace. But I have removed dozens and dozens and never broke one, and I pull pretty hard on those puppies.

I'd have to agree that they are very tough. I've removed the same cable probably around 100 times swapping HDDs and it still works... I'll probably break it eventually, but haven't yet.

I guess I'm not sure what is the "ejection side".

Are you having trouble removing the HDD from the tray? or having trouble removng the tray? I seem to recall that there are a few TORX screws that hold the DVD tray and the HDD tray in place. I can't remember how many or where they are because I never replaced mine! Smile

If you need to remove the HDD from the tray, there are 3 (as I recall) TORX screws holding the HDD to the tray.

To remove the HDD, the basic process is:

1. remove the screws that hold the trays in place
2. remove the power cable from the HDD
3. remove the data cable from the HDD
4. remove the power cable from its attachments to the tray (not totally necessary... just allows you to walk off with the tray and work on it untethered to the Xbox)
5. lift the HDD tray out of the Xbox
6. remove the 3 TORX screws that attach the HDD to the tray
7. lift out the HDD from the tray & you're done!
(steps 1-4 can, to some degree, be done in a different order)

Did this answer your question? Hope I understood the question correctly!

The power supply to my Xbox's hard drive consists of 2 black, 1 yellow, & 1 red wire coming into the white plastic connector attached the back of the hard drive. Just wiggle it loose... I've done it hundreds of times.

The power to the DVD drive has a bunch (maybe 12) thin yellow wires... you can wiggle it loose if you need to remove the DVD drive. When I do this, sometimes the connector attaching it to the motherboard comes loose... obviously you'll need to plug it back in when reassembling.

Also, I have noticed that some of the power cables have a clip you have to press in to be able to remove, others just have a lip that makes it a little snug. I pulled so hard one time, as I didn't see the clip, that I practically pulled the connection point out of the mobo!!

Later man

Ouch! THAT could get UGLY! I'll make a mental note of that! Do you think this is only on newer Xbox, or is it one of those random "we'll use whatever the supplier sends us when they send it" type of thing???

I believe it's in most of the newer 1.4's, 1.5's and 1.6's as I have not seen it in any of the older 1.0's or 1.1's. It was in all of the 1.4's and 1.6's that I have done so far. My first few mods were pre 1.4 so I was used to just utilizing the heave-ho method!! I felt stupid when I saw the clip on the 1.4 that I was tugging my ass off on. Once I depressed the clip it popped off with miniumal work!
