Hi,
I'm quite new to all this. I've been lurking & reading like hell. I've read ALL the pdfs that come with AID3.0 (sid3.1, KNave4.5 & aid 3) and a few posts as well. On the basis of that info I tried the following:-
I did a previous softmod with sid 3.1 that went wrong (I had Error 21). I managed to rescue my xbox (2nd hand- 1st ever - ) and update the dash with an XBox live disc. Now I'm brave enough to try it again with KNave 4.5 once more, and I just cannot get it to backup my MSDash. I can and have backed up the eeprom but with the MSDash it says "previous softmodded files found RENAME". I have used the file explorer but i can't find this file.
Questions:-
1) Will it be possible to softmod without screwing up my xbox?
2) If so willl some one be kind enough to explain a step-by-step procedure for me?
3) If it is simply a matter of deleting the old softmod files, what files do I look for to look for?
4)How do I continue with the softmod as I want to use the dual retail ndure?

Sorry guys, it's prob rude for me to post a 2nd time. I have been doing a lot of searches on the forum and come across these:-
Seems ftp (which I know nothing about) is the way to go. I'm hesitating to do this as I have only one screen and my xbox is far away from my pc.
Can it be possible to softmod again using SID3.1? I don't know where I went wrong during the first (previous) try. Will it be just easier to stay unmodded or pay thru my teeth and get it hardmodded? **sigh**
Why am I never satisfied with the status quo?? **sighs again**

FTP would be the easiest way. Delete everything in C and E, FTP in the MSdash(you can download it from my signature) and reboot. Copy the game exploit and install fresh.

Thnx for the reply. I did try again with sid3.1. Everything went ok but i still cannot get the modded dash(i went for NKPatc dual boot. I can't run the aid3 iso disc. I can still access the softmod menu but only with the SC disc. So I still haven't attained a modded state yet. I can however change a lot of settings via the softmod menu. Are they retained after I remove the disc?
Seems I'll have to learn to ftp and move my pc to the xbox.
