alrighty,
i've had my xbox fo some time now, and i've lost a few games due to scratches (two little brothers have done some considerable damage). I understand there are ways to backup my xbox games and play them on my console. I also understand that this cannot be done with out "modding" my xbox. i know this involves adding a chip into the xbox itself something im happy to do. i want to be sure of the steps i need to take, are there additonal steps invovleved? or do i just soder the thing, put it back together and plug it in, ready to run my backups? i also knew someone in college who had an xbox with a bunch of oldschool games on it, i am aware that its illigal to do so, so lets just say im asking for curiositys sake...how would he have done that? is it the same mod chip? I prob have about a million other questions id like to ask, but will take help as it comes. your help is appreciated fellow gamers. Thank you

Sure you can buy a solderless mod chip and your good to go. Now then you will have a do alot more to get to where your at...but its not bad. Get a solderless chip, flash it with bios, FTP to the xbox to tranfer files and install stuff. I would really push to get a AID3 disc...which will install all the emus you could what (emu is what you put roms in and that plays the old school games) you get roms from website (DO ASK WHICH OR WHERE GOOGLE IT) and then FTP your roms in the rom folder in the emu you are running. FTP, and flashing chips are in the tut page here in the forum for you to use. As for backing up games sure you can....but if you just pay 80 you can have a 200 gb HDD which then you can just rip your games on the HDD once and always play them (without lag for no beat up disc to play from) _________________ The mighty V6 Passat came to chew bubble gum and kick%^* and shes all out of bubble gum!

BTW...this chip is cake to install and has a very easy to use OS to learn how to mod the xbox. Get the wireless one (more $ but will save you)
Also if you go on live....this you can still go on with it _________________ The mighty V6 Passat came to chew bubble gum and kick%^* and shes all out of bubble gum!

Easiest way for you to mod that box would be to soft-mod. Involves no chip, and you would be able to play all your "backed up" games on DVDs. It would also allow you to install those emulators and roms.
Can someone explain SID please or maybe point him to a tut?
I use another flavour of soft-mod, only cause thats the one I used a long time ago and am now very familar with it...but its not the one used here by most. Someone will point you in the right direction!! But I would say try soft-modding first. _________________ My Setup:

LOL...to each there own...I was worried about softmodding for the hotswap and all that jazz. I like the fact that if you mess up a soft-mod you buy a chip So to save me a PITA later I just got a chip..lol. Do you use Tsop? _________________ The mighty V6 Passat came to chew bubble gum and kick%^* and shes all out of bubble gum!

Ya, I am with you on that for the hotswap...he mentioned burning the games..so stock harddrive would be ok for now. Even with the stock drive, you can still get a ton of emulators and roms on there...especially if its the 10Gb drive. But, if he wants to chuck a big drive in there, then ya, get a chip!
When I just had the 1 XBOX, I got a chip. If you are only going to have 1, your're right, may as well get a chip. Where I run so many, for me, soft-mod is the way to go. Go from stock to modded in 3 minutes!!
No, I never TSOP'd. I should read up on that.

Personally, I think a soft-mod is great...until you want to upgrade the drive or if the stock drive konks out. Still fixable mind you, but, thats when its nice to have a chip.
With a chip, you just basically put the new harddrive in...a few steps later and you are done.
I run both, they are both good depending on what you do. If you want to backup all your games to the harddrive...get a chip and a big drive. If you are going to burn to DVDs, I would just soft-mod. _________________ My Setup:

Yeah soft-mod is cheaper to do and if thats all your going to do yes I was able to fit almost all the emus I wanted on the stock HDD. As to how...I don't know anything about it _________________ The mighty V6 Passat came to chew bubble gum and kick%^* and shes all out of bubble gum!

This is the hardest part of a chip and its really not that bad. You need bios so you can run a dash. A dash is like windows for the xbox. But that link I gave you...I think its the easyest to do because of the OS that chi[p has...and you may not need them with that chip (but I think you do) Also DL AID3 that will save your life and make it easyer. _________________ The mighty V6 Passat came to chew bubble gum and kick%^* and shes all out of bubble gum!
