Alright, I have successfully softmodded my own xbox. However, I took on the task of "fixing" my friends xbox which was giving him error 16. He purchased it this way from someone else, hoping it could be fixed. Obviously whoever had the xbox before my friend messed around with it and deleted the dashboard file or what have you. My question: I was planning on having him buy a mod chip that will bypass that error and allow me to reinstall a dashboard file/fix the clock (I saw on some websites they said error 16 is associated with the xbox not being able to get the clock set because of the dashboard file) so that I can install XBMC and get him on the good ol modded xbox road. What modchip can I have him buy that will allow me to do so, because when I look I generally find Xecutor 2.6 ce, but I'm not sure if this will do the job. I also found a website with a list of modchips, and it said that Xecutor 2 4981 would solve my error 16 woes, but I don't know where to find this. Any help? Thanks in advance
Oh, hard drive WD
I'm not sure what version xbox he has, but I know it's not new enough to be a 1.6.
I tried to hotswap, but the "Microsoft" logo never appears, and I tried hotswapping it right before it switches to the error screen, but I have never been successful. I've tried this many times.

"Xecutor 2 4981" is a bios. Download it here. If you want to buy a chip, i'd recommend xecuter 3 or something. I personally use duox 2 and have no problems, works like a charm. You can buy it from here. Its a trusted source. A variety of mods are avaliable here also. Doesnt really matter which one you use, dont get hyper-x or cheepmod, people have problems with it. _________________

if you want a modchip, you have to find out what xbox you have. If you buy a chip, thats made for a certain xbox version, and you dont have it, its not gonna work. if you know how to solder a modchip it could save you like 30$. There are solderless modchips which cost from 40-70$, and solder ones which cost like 20

Thanks hoyas, forgot to mention to check the version. Also make sure sferland that you have the installation diagrams before hand and you know how to properly solder. _________________

Thanks for the help. I think I'm going to get a duox mod, as it looks like I shouldn't have any problems with it. Thanks again!
