I have gone back into SID and ftp'd the contents of the MSdash file into C: and then gone back into SID and done the eeprom backups, the MS backup creation and all and finally done the Softmod install and picked the Evox dashboard. This has all completed without a hitch as it has about 15 times previously. When I get to reboot and this time making sure that the MA game disc is removed I still come up with an error 13 service required message from my box. My system info says that I have a K 1.00.5838.01 and a D 1.00.5960.01, is my system not able to do the softmod?

you might have to use SID 3.1 then, your xbox seems to not like SID 4.5, _________________

okay have removed the softmod from SID4 and restored all from the backups that it creates. Verified that my box will come up with the MSdash with nothing in DVD. Ftp the SID3 exploit to box and then did SID3 backups and install of softmod doing NKpatcher dual boot. Chose install of Evox dashboard/MSdash placing them in C: did Patch for MSdash and finished. Upon reboot with drive closed MSdash comes up, with drive open I get error 21. Restored from backups and tried SID3 again this time choosing single boot option with Evox dash stored on E:. When all is finished and I reboot box with nothing in the drive opend/closed either way I get error 21. If I boot with MA game disk I can get back to Run Linux. Is my box not able to be softmodded? Since the softmod process makes a backup of the eeprom, does it need to overwrite the eeprom or TSOP and since mine doesn't have that capability it fails?

No, I've softmodded my 1.6 without problems.
How are you FTPing the exploit files to your xbox if it is not softmodded? _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

I have gotten the SID 3 and SID 4 MA gamesave exploits to work without any problems and I can then use Ctoolbox thru its FTPExplorer interface to connect to my xbox and then transfer files back and forward at will. I can also ftp to my xbox from the command line as well as telnet. I have no problem connecting to the xbox and maneuvering files and all. The problem that I have is at the end of the softmod process when it comes to time to reboot the xbox it won't come back up without an error unless I have the MA game disk in the DVD drive. From what I have read of the tutorials once I have installed the softmod and EvoX or UnleashX dashboards I should be able to boot my xbox without a games disc in the DVD and have it come up to the modded dashboard from which I can then go ahead and install AID or XBMC or a whole host of other goodies. Each time after the softmod when it doesn't work, I go through the process of Run Linux again then from SID I completely restore my original settings and then try again. I must be doing something wrong, but I don't know what it is and believe me I have been downloading and reading all kinds of tutorials on this stuff.

Sounds to me like your doing everything fine. You could try to completely wipe C and E and then FTP just the C. It possible that there is some kind of corruption or conflict with the files on your E: _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

I don't know if this makes any difference, but of the 2 xboxes that I own the one I am trying the softmod on is a refurbished unit. Has there been any information gleened about M$ doing some type of extra stuff to prevent these boxes from being softmodded? I have owned it now for about 1.5 years.

Nope. I've softmodded several refurbished xboxs without issue.
And yes, it is fine to boot without a E:, just be aware that you will need to retransfer your game save for the exploit _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

I seem to remember someone in this thread suggesting something about not having the MA game disc in the DVD drive when rebooting. If I try to eject the disc before rebooting at the end of the softmod install the tray will come about halfway out and then I will get the error message screen. I have tried the blanking of the E: and C: drives and then ftpng over the MSdash latest that I got here the other night and then redoing my SID game save exploit. everything goes exactly the same as before with the eeprom backup and MS backup and softmod install, but on subsequent reboot I get the error 13 message still. Also I know that the information under my screenname says that I have a modchip installed - and thats not what I have put in my additional information - but I do not have a modchip installed. Is there any way to get the AID ISO to boot without having the softmod installed already? Maybe I could use that disc to get this softmod working correctly.

It's possible, but I don't know for sure. I have a theory on how to do it, and I will test when I get home.
As for ejectnig the disk, what I do is power down the xbox when prompted. then when powering back up, do so by hitting eject and pulling the disk out then closign it as quick as possible _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

That is what my friend had to do when he was trying to get his game out, except in that case, his xbox's fan wouldnt turn on.
