Hello. Please don't kill me if this is a stupid question, but I've searched, and can't find what I'm loooking for. Ok, I'm brand new to modding, and am trying to softmod. I've read teh AID, SID 3.1, and SID 4.5 manuals. What I can't figure out is, if I burn the AID, which supposedly has SID (both of them), would I still need the Action Replay and Memory Card? I've tried burning the AID, but for some reason it's not working on my XBOX. I have the Samsung DVD Drive , and have tried Verbatims and Fuji DVD-Rs. I'm wondering which way to go from here. I had bought the AR trying to do the SID, but bought the wrong game (bought Pandora), but if AID doesn't need the AR, then I'll return it. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Well SID is on AID but, its for upgrading softmods or if you have a chipped xbox and your making a HDD upgrade for a unchipped xbox you would have to make it a softmod for those that dont have an AR.
When you download the AID Package, it comes with the gamesave exploits SID, you will need an AR to put them on and copy them on to the xbox. Then for what game you choose to exploit you have to pop it in your xbox and boot it up and go thru the process of modding it.
After is all said and done and you xbox is sucessfully modded, then you can use AID, AID cannot be read on a unmodded xbox, it has to be modded in order for it to run.
If you have any more questions such as tutorials and what not, ill be glad to direct you to them. _________________

Thanks Hellblazer!! You just cleared up a ton of stuff for me. I read all that stuff so much, everything just kept getting jumbled, but your explanation was very clear. Now I just have to go get the right game.

Hellblazer, I have a set of similar questions for you.
A friend of mine softmodded my Xbox about a year and a half ago with the Custom Soundtrack exploit [he was trying to get me to sign up for XBL so he could kick my can at Halo every night]. I know now that there are more user-friendly mods that don't make you do the boot-without-disc, copy-blank-copy-done-done rain dance every time I want to watch a movie with XBMC. It's tedious, but I can do it; but I'd like my wife to be able to use it when I'm not around to do the rain dance. Aaaanyway...
I've tested it and I can boot the disc just fine, gets to the menu and all. Can I use SID to put a more user-friendly softmod on my already softmodded Xbox? I can use AID to install more recent versions of all the emus he put on there too, right? [I have been periodically updating XBMC -- I like the new 6-6-6 skin -- but not the others.]
Should I try to back the contents of my Xbox hard drive up to my computer before I do any of this?
Hope this isn't too many questions at once. Usually I would just try it and see what happens, but I really don't want to hose this machine.
Thanks!

Here is what I would do:
Backup your eeprom, and ftp it to your computer. This is a MUST in case things get messed up.
Boot to AID. Format C: install the MS dash 5960 to get the dash back to stock.
Use the backup options and backup eeprom.
Use the backup options and backup MS dash
Use the option to install SID4.5 nkave, and if you want to still lpay XBL, use the dual boot open tray to live.

Marvelous. I'm going to try that soon. After that, I might -- MIGHT -- try to pop this spare Maxtor 40GB drive in there, but that's going to take a bit more work -- as we all know now, it's softmodded and I'm a Mac guy at home[though CompTIA and Microsoft certified for my job].
Thanks for the prompt reply, Greven!

Ahh, don't be afraid to ask questions, we won't bite(well, a couple admins might ).
If yuo wanna upgrade and you have a mac, you can try to use chimp to upgrade your xbox. The tutorial was included in the AID manual (.pdf) _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

Greven, thanks again for the directions, but I've run into a bit of a snag.
I followed your directions up to installing dash 5960. Then I went to the backup menu and chose to backup the eeprom again, and the disc froze at the loading screen, which I noticed happens on occasion [not nearly as often since I updated the iso to 3.4 on my wife's xp laptop]. ANyway, I left it be for a while and it never made it back to the eeprom backup utility, so I rebooted the xbox and did the Mechassault trick to get back to EvoX. But now, whenever I try to eject the Mechassault disc the box reboots back to the MS dashboard.
I can still ftp to it, since my XBMC and Mechassault save are on other partitions and I can get to them. But I can't get the AID disc in the drive.
I backed up c: before I formatted it [I just ftped the whole directory to my Mac hard drive] -- can I just restore it from that and pick up at backing up the MS Dash? Do I need to back up the Eepom again if I backed it up at the beginning of this?
Thanks in advance, good folks. _________________ Old Xbox. Softmodded. Original hard drive. =(

You should be able to just restore the files through FTP, yes, and no you don't have to backup the eeprom. _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide
