Not sure if this will help anyone but I just spent about 9 hours trying to figure out how to fix the "ERROR 16" using another softmodded box. Finally got it! Had to hotswap the drives and it took a while to figure out the right time to do it.
Boot to modded dash on still working box.
Pull the IDE cable out of the ERROR 16 box at the right time so the drive stays unlocked.
Then load an AID disc from the modded machine's dash and quickly swap the cable from the good box to the ERROR 16 box before the AID disc begins to re-analyze the HDD
Now you should have access to the ERROR 16 drive if you timed the swap right
(I think I got the timing through sheer luck)
I found a lot of posts regarding using a hardmodded box to fix a softmodded one, but nothing that really explained the softmod to fix softmod method.
