Ok I wanted to see what the masters think are the best setups for the files in our HDD. I am getting my 300gb back here in a week and what to make sure it will not die again. So here is the question can other post there setups in each drive and heck some pics would be kickass too.
So here is what I was thinking to do when I get my HDD back
C Drive: Just MS dash and XBMC
F Drive: Emu, apps, music, vids (150GB)
G Drive: Just Xbox backups (150GB)
I am sure that my old bios and having my dash and games on the same drive...maybe had the drive mess up the files on it or cause it to fail. I have updated my bios so I can have a F and G drive.
How does my setup look and how do others have theirs?? _________________ The mighty V6 Passat came to chew bubble gum and kick%^* and shes all out of bubble gum!

The way that mine is set up is is as such:
C:- Stock MS dash so I can play on live.
E:- Stock e:(TDATA, UDATA). Since this partitions size is standard, I didn't wanna clutter it
F:- Approximately 119 gigs, as this is the most you can get from the F:, and the rest will go to G. I have everything but backups of games and movies on here
G: Purely backups, 152 gigs _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

Ok...now why can't you have more in F drive?? I had all 300gb in F drive before. Also glad to hear my setup is close to the norm. I really love unleash but I almost had the XBMC just the way I like it before my HDD crashed. I had the cool icons and trainers all setup. But the funny thing is I still could get it to read tunes. _________________ The mighty V6 Passat came to chew bubble gum and kick%^* and shes all out of bubble gum!

When you partition your HD you will automatically get predisposed partition sizes for your C, E, X, Y, and Z partitions. These will be in line with what the manufacture sets if I am not mistaken. The rest of your storage, up to approximately 127GB or so will go to the F partition (also called the 6th partition ie: C, E, F, X, Y, Z). Before the LBA48 hack came along, if you had a 500gagillion HD and popped it in your machine, you would only get up to a hundred and something GB on your F drive. The rest would be in storage heaven.
After the hack, you could put the rest of the space on easily. Then, they tweaked the hack a little more and gave room for a 7th parition. This gave you the G drive/partition. This is why you see some bios' like this 4983.06 and 4983.07. What this means is, the bios that ends in .06 only supports 6 partitions, so you can only have up to an F drive. If it ends in 07 it supports both.
Now, I dont know if there is an application that will allow you to format your space on the sixth and seventh partition as you see fit. I am pretty sure it's all done in predisposed chunks of memory/storage.
Keep in mind you cant have 150GB in F and 150GB in G anyway. Because you must have storage in C and E which is a little over 5GB or so, not too mention your cache drives that take up nearly 3GB (X, Y, and Z partitions).
Having 120something GB in F and 160something in G is ample though.
As far as my preference goes, I just like one big HONKIN partition. To me there's no real advantage to having games on one partition and movie/audio files on the next. And I consider myself to be organized and still dont see the use in doing it. I keep all my audio files in F:/Audio which breaks down into other sub/folders like MP3's, WMA's etc...and I have all my DivX movies in F:/Movies. I see no problem in keeping my files organized that way.
In my honest opinion the only use for a G drive would be for a complete backup of F drive. This way, if you FTP a file into your F drive and it becomes corrupt, you have the entire drive backed up to G. All you have to do is do a quick reformat of F, then just restore with your backed up files. _________________ Xbox 1.4

Allow me to make a correction in my last post.

Well I just am shocked that my HDD died in a week. I posted it on XS and a mod came on and said if you have more then 150 gb on on drive it will cause it to crash at some point. Which was odd because everone else said it would be better for the drive to have all the space in a single drive. So I just don't want this to happen again. _________________ The mighty V6 Passat came to chew bubble gum and kick%^* and shes all out of bubble gum!

There is a program called XBPartioner that will allow you to move the space around, but I only reccomend it for advanced users. If you wanna play with it, be my guest, but you might be callin Seagate again, lol. _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."
