I am kinda new to this stuff. I have been having a problem with my xbox not wanting to play a couple of games, such as GTA: Vice City, and GTA3. It will play every once in a while. The rest of the time, it gives me the Cannot read/disc may be dirty or damaged screen. It has been suggested that maybe the disc drive is going out. I have had it for about two years now. Any help that you can give me is greatly appreciated. Oh one last thing, I have not done any mods to this xbox.

you probably have the thompson dvd drive. that is the shittiest drive M$ put into the xbox. you can buy repair kits for them off ebay, but i would suggest trying to get your hands on the samsung drive. its more reliable.

Here is what I did for my friend who had the same issue.
If you don't feel comfortable opening your machine, do not proceed. You can just send to MS and pay $90.00 or so most likely..plus shipping..
Or, you can send to someone like me and I'll take care of it for about $50.00!
What happens is the lasers in the DVD Drive start to get weak. Some games utilize two layers on the disk...that can cause an issue, or dust can cause an issue...even the slightest if the laser is weak.
It is possible to adjust the laser to a higher voltage, but most people just fry it and it's a lot of work.
You can install new DVD Drives relatively easy, again only if you are comfortable opening on your own.
What I actually did for my friend was use a Qtip and some alchahol and clean the laser off, you can buy a DVD Laser cleaner to do if you want to try.
It may help for a little while, but eventually your Drive is gonna shit altogether.
Anyway, what ever method you choose is up to you obviously so good luck in whatever you decide. Let me know if you need any more specific help with this issue.
