Howdy,

My HD in my XBox is failing. I've purchased the exact same model HD to put in it. After looking on this site I realize it's not going to be "simple" to swap the data. The drive still runs for the most part, just every now and then the head locks up. (CLICK!)

Now, from what I've read I'm a little confused on how I can accomplish what I want to do. It sounds like I'll need to hotswap the HD's. Now... um... I'm still kind of fuzzy on how to accomplish this being as I don't have a mod chip.

What I want to do is just copy all the data. Is there anyway to do this w/o using the Xbox? From what I understand of these forums the HD only unlocks w/ the proper password from the XBox Hardware. Which, while the power is still applied to the HD, the drive remains open which allows you to hook it to a PC & access the data.

While able to access this data can I use something like Symantec Ghost to copy all the data? If not, how would I copy the data completely?

Once I get the data onto the new drive, how do I re-lock the HD and not lose the data?

THanks!

=Me!

PS FYI I'm... oh what adjectvie to use... 1337?... IT PRo?... well whatever, I know PCs backwards & Forwards so have no fear getting technical. Wink

Ok you don't need to hotswap...you go to your dash on your old HDD...go to back up and hit it...it will put a file named backup in your C drive....FTP that backup file to your desktop.......Now also ftp the whole C and E drive to your desktop. Now with that you will be ok just put your new one in put the intsaller disc in format it and all that jazz...then just FTP all your stuff on your desktop to your new HDD. now with everything all setup on your new HDD go to the confic magic and hit lock HDD and it will lock it up with your org eerpom (backup file)

Um... shite. So, can I do this w/o a mod chip? I'm thinking if I use the softmod method and FTP everything out I'll be able to back up everything? I'm still not 100% on this. Yay! Hooray for confusion!
