most routers run at 7.5 volts, you need to find out if yours does or doesn't. It should be somewhere printed on the back of it.
Installing you have 2 options:
1. use the 12v(yellow) on the molex for positve, and ground to a 5v, thus, creating 7 volts.
2. (recommended) look into a voltage regulator.
there are ways to keep it powered while the xbox is off so you can use it like a normal router, but thats way over my head electronic wise... _________________

If you router is a 9 volt, you could connect positve to the yellow(12v) and negitive to the orange(3.3v) wires in your power supply loom. Although like I said before, I suggest you get a voltage regulator to drop the 12 volt to 9 volts. Very cheap, like a dollar. Installation would look similar to this:
[o]---12volt in from molex
[o]---9v out
[o]---Ground
If you have some hi-res pics of the router circuitry, post them. You'll just have to follow the traces on the router to find positive and negative.
BTW did you ever get that new fan to fan in your box??
