I've done a lot of reading here both in the forums and the tutorials. I have one question. Can one access there Xbox HD via a PC using a ftp program without a mod chip? _________________ "It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all outta gum!"

To FTP into your HD you will need to have a hacked Dashboard running or Linux I would imagine...I am not a Linux person, so I can't verify for sure.
There is a such thing as soft modding but we dont have any support for that, maybe some day we will but right now you probably won't get much info here in regard to it.
Soft modding is using software exploits to mod your machine without a chip. I have also heard of TSOP flashing which is flashing the TSOP chip that resides on the MB. Again, it's not something that I know a lot of so I can't really recommend it.
Is there a particular reason why you don't want to install a modchip? You can screw your xbox up pretty good either way unless you are really prepared and understand what you are doing. Regardless of soft modding or chipping. You can nuke your machine either way.
Let me know if you have any other questions. I'll be glad to help.

I was just looking for a lazy way of adding Mp3's and such to Xbox HD for my son. Otherwize I have to burn them to a CD then get up from my chair and walk ten feet to the Xbox. Wew I'm tired just thinking about that.
But no seriously at this point I don't really have a true need for a modchip. I'm proficiant with sodering and such so I don't have an issue with that. Maybe when I get some other things out of the way I'll look into it. I dont run any backed up xbox games or anything so I thought there may be a way to just access the HD.
Thanks for reply Dude!

hi niemand,
well to answer your question in short: (short as possible anyway hehehe lol)
No, you cannot access your XBOX HDD without some sort of mod..
You can do one of these to gain ftp access to your xbox HDD:
Modchip your machine
- This is the most supported method on xbox-hq.com. We have members we just about every type of modchip on the planet and can help with nearly every aspect.. If one of us like realmccloy, me (forahobby) or DJB cant help then another VIP sure will be able to.
If you choose modchip this is the basic steps:
1. Install the Modhcip
2. Download a bios
3. Flash your modhchip
4. Download the XBOXHQ Auto Installer 1.3 and burn it to DVD-R/CDRW and boot it in your MODDED XBOX.
5. Press the button that says. "install evox dashboard".
6. Wait for it to finish copying to your xbox and then reboot.
7. You now have to setup your XBOX IP ADDRESS by going into your EVOX DASHBOARD 'System Settings'.. Just set a ip address in the same range of your PC network..
8. Connect to your xbox using FLASHFXP (ftp client for windows) and it will list your xbox hdd juts like a computer HDD..
Soft Mod your machine
This is NOT supported here at the moment. We have a couple of members who have done this but no-one has shed any light on it..I dont have a spare machine to even try it with either.. Maybe in the near future you will find tutorials and pictures/walkthroughs on how to do this here on xbox-hq but not at the moment.. I am organising this with a NEW MEMBER now!
This is what i understnad of softmodding..
You have to copy a gamesave hack to a XBOX MEMORY CARD. Then you turn on a UNMODDED XBOX with this memory card in it and follow a procedure to copy it into the xbox memory.. This then allows you to boot backs.. It is a pretty lengthy process ive heard but dont quote me on that..
Ive also heard if you make a mistake with a SOFTMOD it is very un-forgiving too but dont believe everything you hear or read..
