For anyone that cares to take a listen, I realize I must sound like a broken record among all idiots alike. I normally don't ask people for help if I can do it perfectly well myself (or with mr.google).
I have my Xbox softmodded and I'm running EvoX, not problem works fine. I decided i wanted to upgrade the HD to a 120 gb, so I used the tutorial here. Got C and E, plus the eeprom.bin... made an ISO, burned it to a DVD, changed my drives around, booted... yadda yadda.
I had no issue with creating the hard drive, C and E copied over with no issue. I rebooted and went to lock it, and I was given "failed to lock"... alright, ill just reboot and try 'er again. "failed to lock - drive is locked - unlock first". So I go to unlock, it appears to do something, it runs through that little diagnostic list and then stops... and im given that kind of command prompt. After the first failed lock attempt I stuck it in my Xbox to see if it would work, got an 06 error... I searched the code and looked at a few references. From what I can tell the HD has been locked incorrectly.
I've tried atapwd, and the tools located within the DOS menu on xboxhdm... I've been at this for a good 4 straight hours, anything at all that could point me in any particular direction would be greatly appreciated.

Hey man, this happened to me as well. It is so hard without a chip. I wold just invest about $20 for a chip. It will be so much easier. Just plug it in, pop in AID 3.0 format C, E , and F. Then install anything you want. Easy as that. Enjoy. But w/o a chip I would just give it up. I tried it and now my computer is broken thanx to it. _________________ Moddingbandit

not neceraly it wont break a pc in while trying to do , my respects but what did you do? but back to this guy. error 06 yes it means it cannot unlock hd otherwise wont eeprom.bin . so this is wrong eeprom , hopefuly cross your fingers try putting the same disc you locked it with and and go to the lockin /unlocking tools and put unlockhd -a exactly like that . if that doesnt work then try typing xboxscene let me know what happens . _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

Thanks for all your tips, I appreciate it. I have a Western Digital drive, and tried the xboxscene pass and did some more looking, WDCWDC... etc. seems to be the default master password for most WD drives. with the master password I was able to reset the user password that got corrupted into something unknown. Thanks for your help, the 'xboxscene' suggestion indirectly helped me.

It works, but I'm just curious. I put the new drive in the Xbox and it loads up fine, but it loads to the default MS dashboard, not EvoX... Not really a major issue, I can just re-softmod it. I was just wondered what i maybe failed to copy over to the xboxhdm CD...

yes the reason it loaded ms dash its because we transferd retail ms dsah files to C folder on xboxhdm1.9 remeber? just re softmod it with sid 4.5 and your good to go .... _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

Newbie to xbox, Why so mant formats will xbox not actually see one big
partition? So yu break it down into 3 C, E, F??
So EVOX or aid will format the new seagate HD I install, I dont need to format with my pc???????
Sorrry But I have so mant ???? And so much reading to do. Im putting my chip in now X3 CE, Goy a 160Gb seagate on sale at Walmarts,
