I recently softmodded my xbox using the Splinter Cell exploit so I can play emulators on to it. My dash is Unleash X. I read all types of networking tutorials, yet I basically get the same problem. I am currently using a 10/100 Dynex Switch trying to FTP my pc to my xbox using FlashFXP. My ip address is powered by DHCP and looks something like: 68.223.xxx.xxx I can't seem to connect to it. I would turn off everything( Firewall, Virus-Scan, etc.) and the connection would fail. Could someone please help me. I would really appreciate it.

The 68.233.x.x is the IP address that your xbox is getting from your switch? what is the mask and default gateway are you getting? Are you able to FTP to anything else?
Is the xbox able to connect to the internet? Try using your unleashx settings and check for an updated version. If it connects then you know its frin between the switch and the xbox. _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

the 69.223.xxx.xxx number is from my pc, although it may be from the switch due to the fact both are connected to it. I connect to it but that is as far is I get cause it claims to get lost. I FTP'd to get the softmod deluxe installer file.

K, so which dashboard are you using?
Check to see what IP address the xbox is gettings from the switch, and try to connect to that. _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

UnleashX, my default ip from xbox was 192.168.0.2 but my pc is 69.223.132.114 with a lease that changes every 10 minutes. I tried both the DHCP connection and Static from my xbox. Neither worked. but I know my switch is connected because whenever i use the dhcp connection, I get the ip address conflict warning pop-up when i turn my xbox on.

you have to get a crossover and connect your xbox and PC directly, your switch is causing the 10 min lease. _________________

What is your network mask? If your PC's network mask is 255.255.255.0, then you could probably set a static IP on your xbox to something like 69.223.132.10 and use the same default gateway and network mask as your PC.
I don't know your specif rotuer, but there may be specifics on what range of IPs you can set for static vx dynamic. _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

His IP lease expires every 10 min, the switch is causing that. _________________

I just unhooked my switch so I could access the internet with just the DSL router and my ip address along with the 10 minute lease is still in affect. and I'm not sure purchasing a router or a crossover cable would help. Any suggestions???

purchasing a dsl router/modem would do the following
the router would be connected to the dsl line and configured with ur account info and would be assigned a public ip address, generally in the range you are seeing. the routers internal connection would have an address of probably 192.168.1.1 and this would be used as the gateway address on the xbox and pc. The pc could be assigned say 192.168.1.2 and the xbox could use 192.168.1.3 the subnet masks would have to be matched at say 255.255.255.0
connect the pc and xbox to the switch ports on the router via a standard ethernet cable not cross over. of course if the router had a built in dhcp server you could use that but i always use static on my network.
make sure to buy a decnt router/modem with a built SPI firewall and have the firewall activated. look around at linksys and dlink their kits really cheap nowadays

The router will allow you to setup your ip addresses for everthing that you have connected to it. Even if it changes due to the isp. Your internal ip addresses will be the same. So if your PC ip is 192.168.2.1 then your xbox will be 192.168.2.2 and so on for everything else that you connect. _________________
