Never modded xbox:
It tries to power up 3 times before the indicator starts flashing Red/Orange.

Not quite. I had a friends xbox apart for TSOP flashing, and it did the same thing.

However, this problem can be fixed with a little soldering.

I can't remember off the top of my head, but I'll get back to you on how to do it.

*EDIT:

I followed the tutorial here, and it fixed the problem.
Joining the two points indicated in red should fix the problem.
