hey i was wondering if its possible to make an Xbox equivelent motherboard. I know that the xbox uses FATX and many different types of system requirements compared to a computer, but do you think its possible to in a sense "copy" the motherboard or maybe make an improved version (ie..faster, more efficient, and easy to access) so that you dont have to deal with the problems of lost M$ dash, unsupported media, and some of the other common errors and disadvantages? thanks \m/Thor\m/

The question isn't really whether it can be done, it would be more cost effectiveness I suppose. There is a ramped up version of the Xbox that had more ram plus other goodies, but I can't think of the name of it right this second. The thing is, even with having double the ram, the games can't and don't use the extra ram, so the benefit was minimal except for homebrew applications that didn't have the ram ceiling built in to them.
As far as lost M$ dash issues and the rest, buy a chip like a Xenium, then it really does become a non-issue. Only softmods suffer from those issues with a lot of trouble shooting. Chips recover quite quickly, should it happen.

Too complicated, but if you want an upgrade, buy your self a DreamX, it comes with upgraded CPU of 1.4Ghz when normally, is 733Hz, and the ram is expanded to 128MB while normally is 64MB.

Truely, games aren't affected, they will run the same, the only reason to do this is for Linux, and emulators (that require ram for big roms), other than that, you don't need to do this.

thats cool. but im talking about pretty much duplicating it i guess. is that illegal? is that pretty much stealing the patent? and yeah the cost would probably be different. i was just wondering because if so many ppl have left over parts from other boxes...why cant they just build a "pc" that supports the games. it would have a heck of alot more speed and everything. but then again the xbox is just a cheap pc. the main thing im talking about is the motherboard. as far as playing the games and running emulators...is the processor and the whole system really at its peak performance? thanks for your reply \m/Thor\m/

I just looked into the DreamX. Both models of DreamX (1480 and 733) seem to have problems adapting to games and dvd movies. This system seems kind of buggy for my taste. Good idea, but I think that anyone interested in this should wait to see if they work out the bugs. My main concern was to just make an equivelent motherboard without getting into trouble with the patent. In other words i want to make an "Xbox" or lol "ThorBox" that plays Xbox games and is not an Xbox. thanks \m/Thor\m/

DreamX is buggy, but there are patches to make it work correctly.

Now, remember, I said it's mostly for Linux.

Violations, patents, blah blah blah, you do what you want when and where you want, just don't break law where you can be caught.

In other words, do this for educational purposes, and not to make money off it, than you might not have any legal problems.

thanks for clearing the patent thing up. i like modding alot and i just hope that someday maybe i can design my own console. one that is just pretty much the best out there. one thing ive always wondered is why dont they have a console that plays everything from atari all the way up to the newest games? and now that i softmodded my xbox i see that it is possible to emulate. the AID v3 pack has a crap load of the emulators im talking about. this stuff is just so awsome to tinker around with and i love learning about it.

no that thats out of the way. who would i talk to about researching or making a xbox motherboard from scratch? i want to be able to make a custom board that has the same system, requirements and capabilities as the Xbox. i know the price will probably be higher than the price of an Xbox now but id just like to see for myself how it works and all that good stuff. thanks for the reply \m/Thor\m/
