The main reason I say take Maxtor is the 16mb cache will make your xbox run much smoother and quicker. I have a 300 gig hard drive in my xbox, and I have over a hundred gigabytes of free space. There are only so many games you can play, so get the drive that is going to increase your game play. I love Western Digital, I really do, but I have had a Maxtor Hard drive in my xbox for a long time, and it works great.

so what your saying is there is a difference between the 8mb and 16mb of cache? this is why im torn right now between the two...
sjohn was sayin it wouldnt make a difference:
Quote:
With the 8mb vs 16mb cache, you really won't notice a difference when it comes to the xbox, as the processor is much slower than today's processors. Heck the cable in the xbox is only an ATA100 cable, not even an ATA133 cable, that right there alone basically makes the 16mb perform basically as fast as the 8mb cache would.
and i actually just found out if its true from llamma.com that the xbox :

Hard drive is capable of ATA 100 yet a standard IDE cable was installed by the manufacturer in all consoles.

Hey, do you know what the exact model Numbers are?
If the WD has a model number ending with JB or JBRTL it should be lockable, if it is a Caviar SE it is lockable. _________________ I think I like fixing Boxes more than using them!

srry wasnt on pc for a while, umm yea the xbox ide cable only transfers about 66 i belive .... so between an 8 mb to 16 its milisecs which you wont see a diffrense...
so honestly these are the top brands i delt with and it just matter of speaking what you thin its good or the price or in this case i would pay attention to the gb size not on the buffer ... _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

i just remembered something...on llamma theres a cable mod....they switch the stock xbox one for an ATA100....and theres an increase in speeds....if i did that too would the 16 mb buffer be worth it then?

Benchmark courtesy of toast-
I read that you were interested in further information on what improvements (if any) the ATA100 mod has on the Xbox. So, I did some rough benchmarking - using the same system, I timed loads of games prior to and following the ATA100 mod install. I used the ATA100 cables you provide ...
Anyway...
The setup: 1 Un-moded Xbox system
The Test:
Halo: 1 Player, Normal Difficulty, Level 1 Load (Pillar of Autumn)
Halo: 1 Player, Normal Difficulty, Level 5 Load (Silent Cartographer)
Prince of Persia: New Game, Loading prior to first movie / level
SW - Knights of the Old Republic: Loading of Saved Game on planet Kashyyyk
*All recorded times rounded to the nearest 1/2 sec.
So the ATA100 Mod improves load times ~20-30% - Quite a reasonable improvement for such an inexpensive part. Worthwhile for any Xbox user to do.
Thanks!

That ATA100 cable llamma uses is a standard ATA100 cable, just the only worry would be the length, if you can look at it with your hands on, just take your old one and see if it work with the xbox. _________________

apparently the stock xbox cable is 22 inches....so if i just buy a standard ata100 cable of similar length it should work?
also i dont know much about cables...if i bought a new one is it 80 or 40 pin? from what ive seen on sites it would be an 80 i think.... _________________
