I have a stock unmodded xbox that I am getting ready to softmod. I have the xbox connected to a Netgear GS605 gigabit ethernet switch that is connected to a net gear FM114P router. The router also has my two computers plugged into it. A Replay TV5040 is also plugged into the switch. Everything is connected with RJ-45 cable. When I try to update my dashboard using Halo 2 I get a no network connection error.
I suspect that there is a problem with the ethernet port on my xbox. The switch has a series of lights for each port and the light corresponding to the port where the xbox is plugged in xbox does not light. I've tried multiple cables and multiple ports on the switch.
From what I've been able to read on the web this should be working. I even opened port 8602 on my router as recommended on a page i found but I believe my problem is back at the xbox itself.
Any ideas? I must be missing somethiong.

check the lights on your xbox network port and see if they are lit up. _________________

Good idea, but on my xbox there is not a network light by the ethernet port like on network cards that I'm familiar with. Where should I look?

positive. Pulled the console out of my cabinet just to be sure. There is the ethernet port itself and a small symbol depicting three monitors connected to a network above the port but that is all. No lights. I bought this console on ebay about a year ago. A sticker on the bottom says refurbished. I wonder if it is so old that the ethernet port is not activated. Is that possible?

thanks Hellblazer
. It sure seemed like something was amiss. I'll look on the net for a source for the new chip.
This doesn't address my lack of network lights. Should they be there? Maybe my model predates them

Normally the network lights are there. If the ip remains at 0.0.0.0 when you connect your network cable that could mean that the chip has gone _________________
