I'm going to be getting a used xbox in about a week and I wanted to mod it and upgrade the hdd to a 80GB...I have already bought a solderless modchip "spiderchip ver1.0" awhile back that I never used, so it should still work, but if the xbox is ver 1.0 or 1.6, then I'm not going to even bother trying to install it, since it would be too hard for me, so I would need to do a Softmod...
Now my question is, If I do a softmod, would I be able to install SlayersEvoxInstaller 2.6final (or is there a more updated installer that has everything that Slayers has and is as easy) ...and would I be able to play dvds without the dvd dongle thing and play dvd-r's if i do a softmod?
and also I found this tutorial Ndure Softmod through xboxhdm ...is that the best one to use and the most updated one? or is there something easier and more up to date?

Throw Slayer's away... Just throw it away... that disc is about 2 years old with no update. Check my signature, download AID 3.0. Then shoot over to www.aideluxe.com and read up on it. Read any .pdf files that come with a download from this site. those .pdf's are priceless.
As far as softmod, don't worry about XBHDM right now, softmod your box via the method of your choice (I reccomend SID 4.1, single boot for newbies ) Then go with XBHDM to upgrade. Follow all the tutorials in the tutorial section. I think it's called "Upgrading a HDD on a softmod..." lemmie find it:
That should help ya out once you get past the softmod phase. If you need any help, let us know.
Also, invest in CD-RW's for the XBHDM. If you mess up on building the ISO, you can wipe and start again. _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."

Thanks for telling me about AID.. I tried downloading it from your link, but it got to 92% complete and then it said it was done, there must be something wrong with that link or file... So I just downloaded it from the torrent...
Well I got my xbox today, and to my surprise, its a version 1.0!... so im like this sucks, but im so determined to use this modchip, so i install it anyways even with the solder in the holes, and then when i turned it on, i started screaming! lol i just was so surprised that it was that easy to install it..... I read somewhere (i forget where, it was a long time ago) that it said I had to remove the solder in the holes since i have a 1.0 xbox in order for it to work, but I did it without removing it, and worked, absolutly no problems.. is that true, or am i just remembering something that I probably never even read, lol...
I just got one more question, and then i'll be done modding my system. I was going to use the 80gb hdd thats in my computer right now, and then put the 10gb in my computer...
Do I need any of the files that are on the retail 10gb hdd? (there arent any saved games/music on it)
and I was going to just format my 80gb and then fdisk it.... Do I have to go back and fdisk it again, or will the AID 3 do that for me?
