Hi
i am new to the xbox modding scene. I am sure that my questions are already answered. And since i am a total noob i dont have an idea what i have to put into the forum search to get good results. (Because i dont know all those terms).
Its really hard for someone who has just started with xbox modding not to go crazy with all those information. Other than that my native language is not englisch so sometimes i really have a hard time to understand what everybody is talking about. I also found the Glossary of Terms but the first "word" i didnt understand was SID 4.5. And off course there is nothing about that in that glossary.
Anyway here are my simple questions:
1. Right now i have a XBOX with some games. nothing else. no chip. no memory card. no splinter cell (or mechassault or 007) and no action replay. And no friend with an modded or unmodded xbox. (only one with an 360 but i doubt that this is any good to me). I have a psp though.
Do i need ALL of those things to sofmod my xbox? (except 2 of those 3 games of course)
2. Lets just say i go out and buy an action replay, spllinter cell and a memory card and a membership to this page. Wouldnt it be cheaper to just get a chip?
and 3. (i guess this has nothing to do with modding). I bought an xbox with Samsung drive because i thought it will run burned music CD. But it doesnt work. Am i doing something wrong? Is there a special way to burn cds for the xbox?

the drive maybe damage , to softmod you would need 1) action replay kit $30 and 1 of the 3 exploitable games $5-15 .

A good way to save a little $ on the Action Replay is to just buy an Xbox controller to PC USB adapter. It's just a little cable that plugs into your Xbox controller on one end, and has a USB connector on the other end that hooks into your PC. I got one on eBay for $5.95 and free shipping. This lets you use your controller as a memory card reader/writer.
You still need the Action Replay software, but that is freely downloadable.

Thank you very much to the both of you. I already bought Splinter Cell 1 (already have 2 and 3 so i wanted it anyway ) I guess i will buy this pc usb adapter, too.
And of course i have to get an memory card. But i dont think i will ever need it again except for doing the softmod O_o I guess i buy a third party product. As long it has no compression there should be no problem with that, right?

I was very lucky to find an official MS brand memory card for just $5.00 at a local shop. People say the MS brand cards are the most reliable. MadCatz is also a good brand. There is a list of working cards here at xbox-hq -

Hey there. I am getting closer to my Xbox Softmod. But since i am really scared of bricking my box i want to ask some more questions. Hopefuly there is still somebody who wants to help. As you can see i made a little list of the steps i have to do. The only thing i want from you is to confirm that these are the right steps an perhaps add something to it. With Point 8./10. and 11. i am not really sure.
And just to make it clear. As i am posting this .. Post i am still working my way through the AID and SID Manual.
And no matter how much i read that a softmod is SOOOO easy i still believe (now more then ever) that it is really hard to understand for someone who just got into this xbox modding scene. Especially with ALL those new Terms like AID, SID...! So if you choose to help me i BEG you that you do this as easy as possible
(Of course that doesnt mean that all those guy who worked on this software messed up or something I guess (because i have no idea) they really did a damn good job.)
1. Buy one of the exploit games (in my case Splinter Cell)
2. Buy an Action Replay Max (Memory Card and Docking station included)
3. Download AID 3.00 and AID 3.01 Update
4. Create an new Iso with the 3.01 Update files included. Then burn it with dvd decrypter.
5. Setup your Action replay and copy the "SID45.NK.Loader.SplinterCell.PAL.zip" (i am sure about the PAL file ) and the "SID45.NK.Launcher.zip" to your Memory Card.
6. Insert the Memcard in the Controller and start you Splinter cell game
7. Load the "LINUX" savegame
8. And the what? Do i have to reboot the box after that? Or do i have to wait for the installer Menu?
9. Backup the eproom and the MS Dash
10.Another hole. Whats my next Step? The "Install Softmod" Button? :O
11.After that i can boot the AID Cd-R and play around with the tools?

What does this mean? After i installed the softmod and played a little with it i have to install the OLD MS dashboard before i am turning the xbox off? Every time? What happens if i dont? Paper weight? If this is really the case i wont go and buy and action replay tomorrow

Will there be a problem if i buy the Action Replay Max with the included Memory card? Because i heard from several sources that maybe it wont work and that the Original MS Card should be used. But i already spent to much money. So whats the possibility that it will work? If you guys say "Most likey under 10%" i will buy and original card and that Controller 2 USB connector. (If i find one - ebay is not an option)

i have a suggestion....instead of trying to understand it all at once....focus on the softmod first....its the most important part...the aid disc is for adding things after its modded.... _________________

Somehow i get the feeling that nothing i do is right. In my experience noobs always get bashed if they dont read alot about the stuff they want to do. I guess in may case its the other way around. And i dont know whats wrong with my questions. Are the answers easy to find and am i just stupid? Did nobody understand? Or is this place just dead O_o
I appreciate your suggestion but i am pretty sure that i can handle copying 2 simple files to my xbox (already did that). So whats next? Right .. everything else.
I just dont want to find myself at a point where i have NO idea what to do. Then i have to write a post (wich takes me usally very long because its not my nativ language). Then i have to wait. And no offense but what if the answer to my question is something that doesnt help me at all. If there will be an answer. And all of that happens while my xbox is running because i have no fu****g idea if i can turn it off or not without risking major damage.
Of course you dont have to help me and i have no right and try forcing something (wich wouldnt work off course).
Sorry if this post sounds a little rude but thats only because i had no internet for 24 hours (yes thats bad O_o) and i recieved the wrong Splinter Cell Version.
Bought the normal old Release - opened it up - and inside was the Classic Version. So right Package but wrong Disc. He will trade it in but this will take another week.

the 1 hardest parts of softmoding are:
1.- Getting files on memory card.
2.- Getting the correct game disc that works.
The rest is fairly simple and not complicated at all.

@nknave: Thanks for the offer. But i dont speak spanish either. Anyway the softmod went fine (with the Splinter Cell calssic version -PAL). Used SID 4.5 Nknave Edition. Thats from you right? Thanks. Its indeed fairly simple. I guess i was only scared because i was new to this stuff. So some confirmation about what i am doing would have been nice.
I guess this thread is better of closed.

It made sense to me, and yes I did work in the Exploit with DJB, and trust me, SID 4.5 is made to be easy, older versions of SID and other installers can be a bit complex for the new, but this is straight to the point.
Enjoy your modded xbox, I'm happy to see more ppl are going SID
