Posted: Mon Apr 10, 2006 1:29 pm Post subject: X3 Flash, I know how i broke it, i need help to fix it
I have an X3 pin header install on a 1.0 board, everything works well, boots into FlashBios (3.01 or 3.03). I flashed a "X3_3294" bios to bank 1 (Off On Off Off) flash looked correct (yellow bar then green bar, then shut down) but i get a FRAG. I have used this BIOS on another X3 that worked correctly. I then downloaded a new version of the 3294 BIOS and flashed it to bank 2 (On ON Off Off) and again FRAG. I can boot to the "fail safe" bios (Off Off Off Off) and get 3.0.1.
The question... is there any way to flash to bank 1 or 2 from the fail safe boot (Off Off Off Off) ?? i don't want to over write the fail safe and lock my self out all together

you can't screw yourself, you have a backup bios, if you push both the power and the eject button in at the same time (Try it to confirm before going further.)
ATM, try flashing another bios to the chip, possibly an x2 512k bios (edit it first) or possibly an evox bios.
This is to see if your chip is installed properly or not, b/c the x3 is a very touchy bios that uses pins 13-14 (i thnk those are the ones) where you can boot flashbios, flash (depending on the connection, i had cold solder joints and it would freeze while flashing), and then not boot the x3. Also, make sure you aren't using the 1.6b bios just in case.
If you can get one of the other bios' to work, and not the x3, I would say to try to go over your joints again.
Once again, its one of the most pain in the ass chips to install if its your first time, even if you can solder perfectly, teamxecuter's boards are mostly install issues.

So an X2 Bios will work on the X3? like an M8+ or something? (at least for testing?)
I will have to test again but if i push both buttons at the same time, it FRAGs (the best i can push both at the same time anyway) and if the chip is off it will boot to the default M$ dash
I did flash the (Off Off Off Off) bios with the 3.01. And the 3.03, several times back and forth, so that one works

You can use any bios, that is why the x3 has a 2mb bank, to copy multiple different bios', however the X3 is suggested for using the full potential of your chip.
Now, if you can't boot the back up....damn you have me stumped. I will try to do some digging over at the teamxecuter.com forums (in the event i can't find an answer you might want to look over there as well.)
We don't have me x3 afficionados on the board, I am one of the only ones and honestly haven't been paying attention to the boards over there like i used to due to my classes.
But try the other bios' and read up on the back up bios too, on my 1.6 i had to push the power button in a split second before the eject to make it happen or i would get a blank hanging screen. _________________ XBOX v1.6
