I have an xbox that wont read any discs. No matter what type of disc I put in,
I get the no disc message. I have another xbox modded with a xenium ice chip, and I used its dvd drive in the non working xbox, and it worked fine.I changed out the laser, but I get the same message. I dont know what version the non working xbox is, but its at least 5 years old. Anyone have any ideas what the problem might be?

Wow, 5yrs old eh, no wonder the DVD drive died! Well, if you replaced the laser and it didn't help, there may be further problems with your DVD drive. Or there could be a problem with the IDE or power connections.

If you can't solve the problem with this drive, perhaps you should look into replacing the whole drive itself.

Hope this helps,

Roo Smile

At 5yrs old, it probably has a Thompson drive. You're better off getting a new drive. Go for a Sammy or phillips.

if replacing the laser didnt work and the other dvd drive works in it then you have to replace the whole thing. No other way around it.

I already spent 25 bucks on the laser, so I dont really want to spend another 60 bucks on another phillips dvd drive. I opened my working xbox dvd drive and turned it on. I noticed that the laser moves up and down, then stops. I did the same thing with the non working xbox, the dvd spindle spins twice, but the laser doesnt move. so I connected a AAA battery to the motor(with the unit off of course), and it didnt spin. but, when I removed the laser from the housing, the motor spins freely. I guess I could just chuck the damn thing, but Im intrigued.

my opion is get your $ back for the laser and just try to sell that dvd drive for parts to someone and use all the $ for a brand new dvd drive.
