I made a slim xbox and now need some screws that are the same size as the xbox screws, just shorter. I am using the stock screws for a hard drive and dvd enclosure or id probably just use dye and thread the stock screws. Anyone have an idea of where to get some shorter screws?

How much did you shave off? Just measure the stock screws and minus the difference. Your local hardware store would be a good place to look for the screws. Post some pictures when your done, so we can have a look. Good luck _________________

i'll post some pictures of the progress tomorrow, its a slim box with a window cut in the top, 1/2 of the front face is stock, the other half is clear. Where the jewel was theres now the fan, im thinking about making a raised jewel with vents underneath but i dont want to make the xbox any taller. Its all real ghetto right now, everything ive done so far has been with a razor blade and a dremel cut off wheel and a little epoxy. It really needs repainted and cleaned up. It has 4 hard drives, stock, 250 gig, 200 gig, and a 120 gig. The 120 gig just fried though, there goes all my backups of my dvds from back home. The hard drive enclosure is a stock xbox case with a plexiglass bottom, which will eventually be lighted underneath. I think i might chage the hd/dvd case into all plexi just for looks and to make it smaller. The xbox can be removed and used completely serperate from the hd/dvd enclosure for lan parties and just to show it off I was considering putting it in a computer case, but i love how light the xbox is wthout all that extra crap inside it and how portable it is. It really sucks trying to case mod when all your tools are 2 hours away.
Oh and another question, anyone know where i can get a connector like the one on the xbox motherboard for the dvd drive? the 14 pin connection, i want to make an external plug on the back of the box, so i dont have to have that cord sticking out.

That is exactly what i did with my slimbox. My ide cable just hangs off the back, will mount sooner or later. The 2x7 pin connector you are talking about can be taken off an old motherboard. Thats where I got mine from. _________________

what he needs is a male socket, like whats found on the mobo, or the dvd drive itself. _________________

yea impwiz is exactly right, i already have an extra one of the little yellow cables anyhow. anyone have a fried motherboard they wouldnt mind ripping it off of? id do it myself in a heartbeat, but i dont have an extra mobo, and its kinda tight in there to be soldering 12 wires in. I'd gladly pay for it too. Or if anyone knows where i could pick one up....actually any connector that connects 12 wires would work, as long as its relatively small.

Thats a good idea. Those connectors would also be more resistant to damage. after plugging the dvd drive in so much, those stock white plugs would probably fall apart. _________________

well i did it, used those connectorsi showed in the links and it works perfectly. Im thinking about using that same one to wire in the molex connectors into the same connector, but it is 1 connection short oh well. Im just glad it works good and i can get back on xbox live
oh and one other mod i was thinking about doing, has anyone ever tried to squeeze the communicator into a normal type s controller?
