I checked the Tutorials and didn't find anything on computer types but from checking the guides I know my new HD, Seagate barracuda something is the right type I need to install. In other words, it Will lock and unlock.
Now, I need to know if my new Dell is the right kind of computer to do this (because I understand there are some that won't allow it.) I don't see any IDE connections/plugs on the mother board shy of taking the D: disc drive out and connecting my new HD there (then going into BIOS and setting boot order to boot from E: drive where I will put the .iso file to launch xbox recovery tool.)
Below is my new info. Do I have the right type of computer to perform the HD setup/recovery myself?

man i thought u were finished with that....
first ur boot order needs to be done right .... 2nd remove the pc hd the blue wire and the wire that powers that hd...
3rd and final ( no other way around this and it is possible)
UNPLUG UR CD/DVD DRIVE IDE CABLE !! leave it around somewhere then grab the ide cable that came with hd and PLUG IT where the cd/dvd drive (connection between the drive and motherboard) would of been
then plug ur hd and ur cd /dvd drive on that ide cable... put the hd as master and slave on cd/dvd... and u should be good... hit me up on aim/msn ill explain better _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

That all made perfect sense.
My top cd drive is PATA and tht's the port I have to use to plug in the new HD.
My bottom cd drive is SATA so that's where I put the linux .iso bootable CD.
I set the boot order to boot from CD (there's only one cd option to choose.)
When I reboot, the CPU tries to boot from the new HD as that's the first CD. If I set the bottom cd jumper as master, I would probably have to set the new HD to slave, right? Any suggestions?

no ur hd has to be masterd on jumper and ur cd drive slave...
ur boot order should be live .... 1st cd/dvd drive 2nd ide hd and 3rd sata drive... well it doesnt matter as long as it reads the cd drive first...
add me to aim or msn and we talk from their.... _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

If you have An Sata HDD you need to unplyg the SATA cable do your Bios doesn't read it. That will help a lot. (one more thing out of the equation) _________________ I think I like fixing Boxes more than using them!

i told him that and iduuno if he listend to me .....
i said unplug ur blue cable wire that goes from the motherboard to ur pc hd ... and why not also the power thing that powers ur pc hd....
then told him to change his bios to boot from cd drive fist...
i also said to use the ide cable that came with his hd to put it where the place of the cd drive is currently taking ....
the main ideal is that u gotta have both the hd and the cd drive conneted and must boot the xhdm1.9 ... hd has to be master and cd drive slave..
if ur cable that was conneted from motherboard to ur cd drive doesnt have more plug in for ur hd THEN grab ur ide that came w/ur hd and it should have 3 plugs 1 for the motherboard ... 2nd for the cd drive and 3rd for hd ... lol is this soo hard to understand? _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

Duh, wow, yeah, I didn't consider that.
I gotta say HUGE THANKS to you all for the help. I am still an uber neebie -- seems like just yest. I was writing programs for my commodore 64!! I'm frickin' Old School!!!
So connect IDE cable that came w/new HD to mother board. Connect new HD to first port on cable, master, and CD to second port (end port on the cable, slave.) That leaves me w/ only one power cord, that I know of (the one that's currently connected to the D: cd drive.) There is at least one cord in the area that isn't connected to anything. I'm not looking at it right now but I believe it may be a power cord. Guess I'll try that.
I'll write back if I still have concerns. I have to leave for work in less than 2 hours so I may not have time to fully get into this today. Then, the next time I have free is Fri.
Don't worry about responding -- I'll post later as to how it went.
I think I can figure this out -- even if it kills me (I'm sure it's killing all of you!!!!!)
