I was using chimp to copy my original to and bigger hdd. my original is a WD and the new drive is a WD 40 Gig. I know that it is lockable because I already used chimp on another exbox to copy on an Identical hdd. What happened is I was copying and the power turned off on my xbox but i did not know it. I copied in blind mode and so I thought it had finished because the screen was still blank. So I locked the new hard drive from the mother board. Well I don't think the new hdd finished copying or something and it will not boot I get error 12 when I turn on my box. I get the same error with the original hdd as well. I don't have a backup of the eeprom or hdkey. Is there any hope of being able to get the eeprom off the original so I can get my box working again?

You are going to have to hotswap if you don't have backups.

I tried the whole hot swap thing for a couple of hours this afternoon with both of my hard drives.( the original and the new virgin one) I get error 7 when I boot up the original. I guess that means it is not unlocking it or something??? I get that error even if my cd drive is completely disconnected power and ide both. I was able to use the ms dash download and create a recovery disc(thanks for the link pirrup). I got error 5 when I used the virgin hard drive created from the cd. So I locked it using a password suggested by liveinfo beta 3. then I got error 6 when i boot up. I think i am doing someting wrong. I don't think i quit understand how to lock the hard drvie without the eeprom.bin. Can someone please suggest another way if there is one.

Error 7 is hdd timeout, error 5 is unlocked hdd and error 6 mobo can't unlock hdd. Maybe you should change jumper settings on the error 6 drive. Change to master or cable select. Normally when you hotswap, you shut down your pc and it'll lock the hdd.

nope. I just tried a couple of games and an AID 3.0 dvd. none of them work. I even swapped the dvd drive from my other box and it doesn't boot a game either.

You probably are running the wrong dashboard, your going to have to download the m$ dashboard and and make a xboxhdm disk and do a hot swap or if you have the eeprom then just make a new disk with the eeprom and m$ dash and format c again.

no lol, your not stuck with a paper weight, you can still do a hotswap with out a eeprom its just the m$ dash files that need to be replaced, just follow pirrups tutorial and you will be fine. Just look under his sig for every thing you need.
