Hi guys. I just tried to softmod my second xBox. I (stupidly) used the xBoxHDM disc from my first xBox and it of course didn't work right (but still worked in the first).
Then I realized what I had done wrong and made a new xBoxHDM image disc from the 2nd xBox. Then I used to ConfigMagic to unlock the HDD and set the Master Password to "TEAMASSEMBLY". I ran the xBoxHDM boot disc and everything seemed to go right. I locked it from there and was pretty confident everything was fine.
I plugged the HDD into the xBox and got error 06. I get the same error if I plug it into my 1st xBox. I can't coldboot the AID software.
The worst part is, my computer won't recognize the drive. I get something like, "Primary Master Hard Disk Error. Press <DEL> to run setup." So I go into setup and find "IDE Configuration" and it seems to see the drive. It says "Primary IDE Master: (drive serial number), Primary IDE Slave: Not Detected". But no boot discs seem to be able to see the drive. I've tried both xBoxHDM discs (from my 1st xBox and the new one), and they say "No drive found on Primary Master! Shutdown, attach drive, and try again." The Windows XP and the Seagate boot discs also say there is no drive. I do have the jumpers set to master.
It's like it's locked to everything. What can I do? Please help. Thanks.
AJ

So your bios detects the drive properly, but it gives an error before that? Might be something physically wrong with the drive. Do you haear any wierd noises, or does it get very very hot? If you look at the IDE pins on the drive, are any of them bent? Have you tried a different IDE cable? Have you tried a different computer?
I would power everything down, undo and redo all the connections, try to boot again, see if you get the same error. Try a differect drive in the same slot and see if it is detected properly. If it is, you may be able to flash the firmware on the origianl drive depending on the manufacturer, or it may be toast. If it is also not detect properly, then your drive is probably fine and you want to look for something with the cabling, power, or your mobo. _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

what you did is lock the hd with a password from configmagic.
this is not good because a softmodded xbox needs a locked hd that is locked with the correct eeprom from the xbox mobo.
so what you can do is unlock the hd using xboxhdm and the TEAMASSEMBLY password.

Greven,
No, I don't see or hear anything physically wrong with the drive. I don't think it's the IDE cable, power, my computer, or the connections because it's all the same stuff I'm using my for PC hard drive right now. Also, it all seemed to work until I locked the drive.
Pirrup,
I've tried to do that, but like I said, xBoxHDM tells me "No drive found on Primary Master." This kind of makes me think maybe I just toasted the drive...
Any other suggestions? Thanks again.

You could do a free hdd analysis at http://hdd-tools.com/ to see if it's messed up. _________________ XBOX V1.4

Since you have xboxhdm, try using the command line options like atapass(I think thats what its called) and unlock with the master password if it is detected in there.
P.S.: How can you tell I work for tech support in a call centre? Sorry for all the questions, but if your troubleshooting something like this, you need to make sure the problem is what you think it is. _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

is your jumper set to CableSelect when you plug it into Xbox2??? That's usually the problem with Error 06... your Xbox HDD has to be on Cable Select when it's hooked up... Master in your Comp, CS in your Xbox... Try that, I'll bet ya 50 bucks it'll work (as long as you haven't messed up the drive anymore since you used the second disc.) _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."

Hmm, maybe that was it. None of the tutorials I read said anything about that. Anyway, I returned the hard drive and got a replacement and the new one works fine. I do still have it set to master, though. Thanks, guys, for your help.
