Okay, so I did something stupid. Read on...
I formatted and prepared a new hard drive following all instructions to the letter, except for one - instead of putting the password using the eeprom info, I used a different password ("password"). I thought the drive just needed to be locked and hey, I was drunk at the time and figured I could unlock it later by typing in "password" if I f'ed up. However, I'm sober now and nothing I do unlocks the damn drive. I formatted a second drive with the eeprom password and works like a charm, but now I have a 120gb paperweight I'd like to get back in working condition.
Anyways, I appreciate any help you can give me, it's puzzling the heck out of me!
Oh, and I used HDDUnlock.

I DO know the password, but no software I've tried can unlock it, or I'm doing it wrong. How should I go about unlocking it? Thanks in advance.

1. Re-try unlocking it with the same program you locked it with and try caps, first letter cap, or some possable typos that you may have made including missed or extra letters.
2. You may be able to unlock it by reflashing the firmware, as described in this page, to the HDD. See this page:
http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Unlocking%20Seagate%20Xbox%20Hard%20Drive.htm
BUT the files on this page are for an ORIGINAL HDD not a 120 GB, you'll need to find your own firmware.
4. You might want to try that also: I have returned a locked HDD that was still under warranty to WD, and they sent me a replacement for free! All I had to do is pay the shipping costs to get it there. _________________ I think I like fixing Boxes more than using them!

Thanks for the help Lee!
I've spent the last 3 hours trying different combinations but to no avail. Does the password get converted to anything (hexadecimal, etc) or should it just be exactly what I put in?? I'm pretty certain I checked my spelling when I entered the password in the first time.
Anyway, I'm gonna try to get in touch with Seagate and see what they say. Let me know if you guys (and gals) think of anything!

Not a Problem! It wasn't very long ago that I didn't know much at all about XBoxes. I only want to pass on the favors that people did for me!
How was it that you locked the drive?(HDM option 3, atapwd.exe, or ?)
BTW: After 5 unsuccessful unlocking attempts you need to reboot the computer because the HDD will not unlock, it goes into a "lockout mode" _________________ I think I like fixing Boxes more than using them!

Still no luck. Seagate swears that their ATA drives don't have firmware (which makes no sense to me) and can't give it out. In any case, flashing the firmware seems a no-go.
I've tried every permutation I can think of, and have reached the point of giving up.
I don't have anything important on the drive, so instead of spending $30 to fix it I might as well just buy a new one. However, it's still under warranty so I'll probably try to send it for repairs/replacement. I dunno.
The one thing I did achieve is to retrace the events of that night, so here goes:
1. Get eeprom from xbox
2. Run XBOX HD Maker using bootable CD
3. Format the HD using HDMaker. Reboot, consume alcohol..
4. Select option (3) to boot to linux - it crashed or something. Reboot, consume alcohol.
5. Select option (4) "Boot to DOS with HD Unlock tools" from the menu.
6. Run HDLock. Bypass the warning. Select Drive.
7. Reach "Enter password:" prompt. Type in "Password"
8. Get message "Your xbox hard drive was locked with password: PASSWORD".
9. Everything seemed to be going according to plan, consume more alcohol.
10. Take drive out of pc, put into xbox. Cross fingers, turn xbox on.
11. Get error message. Start swearing. Consume alcohol.
12. Reread instructions, attempt to unlock drive. Fail. Password not accepted.
13. Consume alcohol. Replace original xbox drive. Play Halo2. Go to sleep.
Dunno if this'll spark any ideas. At least it's one more DON'T DO THIS story. I'm pretty sure HDlock f'ed up my password and didn't tell me (i'm pretty sure now that the drive only accepts a-f and 0-9, so i dunno what happened when it tried to set to password). In any case, I'm pretty fed up with this whole business. I think I'll try my luck with the warranty.
Thanks for the help tho.
