I'm planing to format hdd lock it and install sofmod onto my chipped xbox, I believe this is can be done, the chip is duox2 will be active when pushing power, so if softmod boot is set as eject it will work huh?
oh the reason for this is bcs I can test the softmod on a chipped first: if the mod fails I can always boot via chip/format hdd and boot softmod again right?

wrong.. if u have a chip alrdy on the xbox then u just simply put new hd on xbox and formate it and put its dash and the rest of the stuff ....
basicly u have a chip fitted on the xbox and ur wondering if the softmod mess up then u flip the switch right? well softmods arent requrie with chips.. so if u have a chip alrdy on the xbox then u can put new hd in and formate it with the neceray stuff...
is ur chip reflased alrdy? or it stil has cromewell bios? _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

No, Iwant to softmod it to see how it works, if I mess ap I can always format and start all over, when I finally get it to work I will softmod the "virgin xbox".
My Q is: Will the softmod interfere somehow with the chip which could mess up chip or xbox?

yes totaly... softmods and chips are not to go with each other..... there is a thread on sid4 that it clearly tell u that....
pretty much like this ... xbox bios has to be change... a chip can change it but a softmod can only redirect so like this: power on xbox and it loads retail bios... then hits a detour! blip blip........ re-direct bios ... nkpatcher or pbl... etc etc.. nkpatcher is the best so far... and its on sid4 4.5 so if u plan on doing sid 4.0 then its perfect so noobs cannot mess up cuz its scprith if u dont have requirements then it wo0nt let u softmod it...
now the real question what is better softmod vs modchip... but since u alrdy have a chip then i say just put it and 4get softmod ... SHARKY HELP !!!! ....... but softmod really got to the point where chips do the same ... but chip is easy to recover stuff and easier hd prep .... so really it all boils down to your needs... so read on hq more on other threads and im sure u will find ur answer... _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

so you recommend SID 4.0 instead of 4.5.. can you tell why, also is it true that eeprom cant be made virtual on 4.5 but can not be made on 4.0 bcs the (SC1 pal does not work, thats my setup).
I guess maybe thats why it's better.

ok sid 4.0 was the best cuz it has virtual mounts ... eeprom patch shadow C ... etc etc... 4.0 was causing issues on pal boxes... and SOME not all but some ntsc users had issues playin back games...
4.5 however has no more eeprom patch.. so its less safe but its stil safer compared to other softmods outhere...... so there u have it. _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

if you have a duox 2, and have a way to boot the retail MS dash you can test it to your heart's content. What i would do though, so that you can test it without failures, is delete everything thats on the hdd, get AID 3 (which has the SID 4 series, and install it from there)
just besure to load the MS bios (retail bios) or you may get bugs which otherwise wouldnt be there. when you are done testing, pop the AID 3 disc back in there still using SID 4 and format all the drives and install the regular dashboard files that you would use for a chip.
also, dont instal dashboard files from AID meant for chips thinking that you can use them with softmods. Im no expert by any means with SID 4, so i dont know if the 'softmod' section dashboards will work properly with it.
thats just my two cents, but what do i know, im just one of the softmod admins around here
give a shout if you have any problems

thanks da_goat! thats exactly what I want to do, have a chipped xbox with formatted harddrive with just retail stuff on!!!
the chip is only active when pressing startbutton so if the softmod (SID3.1 or 4.5) can be done with just eject(not the power button) then I think I'm all set.
and when I finally learn to softmod I just format the unlock the chipped harddrive and format it in PC!!!
