I have the exact same problem. I used SID 4.5 Nknave and everything went great, followed the directions perfectly. BUT, when I restart, I see the unleash splash screen for a quick second and then BOOM, garbled video.

I am running composite cables on my XBOX so I thought I would change them to regular and viola, picture was fine.

Is this common? I'm sure there are people out there running SID 4.5 Nknave AND composite at the same time.

Again, retail XBOX is fine, even softmodded when booted to exploit or retail game, BUT when booted to unleash or Evo (tried both), garbled video.

The cables work on retail, and on open tray (Ndure dual) boot. Its just that, with the component cables, my evox/unleashx both come up garbled, and any game I try and play through them come out garbled as well.

The cables work properly, its just that they do not work with my dashboards (Softmodded by SID 4.5 Ndure dual boot).

I take it that there is a problem with 4.5 and component cables, can anybody confirm?

If you are hooked up with component cables then the problem may be your video mode. If you are connected to a tv that supports component input but will not accept anything but 480i, then your problem may be that the old version compared to the new one has a different default(for example, the new one defaults to 480p, 720p or 1080p). If you connect with composite, change your HD settings to 480i, and then switch back to the HD cables, you should be fine.

If your connected with component to a TV that supports 480p and 1080i, it won't nessecarily support 720p, so try in this order:

480i
480p
1080p
720p

This is the most likely order to work, and should tell you what your options are.

I assume you mean component and not composite.

Component: Red Green Blue(also sometimes refered to as Y Pb Pr)
Composite: Red White Yellow

Oops, yeh I meant component. BUT component cables are not HD cables, I am not running High Def at all (my TV does not support it and I have no High Dev turned on on the Xbox).

My TV is brand new, top of the line non-HD, component cables work with my Xbox when running retail, even retail after softmod (dual boot).

WHY won't it work through unleashx or evox????

K, Component cables are HD cables, but they can also do SD.

Whats likely happening is evox is detecting your HD cable pack, and starting with one of the HD type video resolutions, where the MS dash is not.

Attach your composite cables, go into your unleash settings, and turn off all HD options. If unleash is detecting your composite, it may disable the HD options, and you won't see your video.

At this point you may need to figure out the key sequence to get into the menu based on your skin so you can do it blind.

yes componet cables are hd... however the softmod wouldnt allow hd support ... then they made 4.5 and now u can add hd support to softmods i belive... before u had to get a source code of nkpatcher and compliy it for hd... but on aid 3 i think u'll find the hd software...

btw if ur tv doesnt support hd then u cannot get hd .. u need hdtv and hd cables..

what will happen if ur tv doesnt support hd and u have hd enabled? well it cuts off ... that simple.... SO I THINK THIS IS WHATS HAPPING TO THAT DUDE THAT IS TRYING TO INSTALL THE SOFTMOD .... however has he tryed 4.0? tyrant77?

Didn't know that earlier versions didn't support HD, good to know.

But yeah, if the component cables are sending 480i over them, it will still work on a regular TV providing that it has component inputs( newer toshiba tv's have 1 or 2 component inputs for SD tv's.). So, disable 480p, 720p, and 1080i and you should be fine.

sorry havnt been here in a while due to lack of feedback there towards the end, this all makes sense so i will try it tonight when i get home from work. so what i should do is hook up regular red/white/yellow cables and then go into dashboard and disable the above mentioned video output modes? switch back to component and all should be good? i will let you guys know if this works, and thanks a million for all the feedback..........

The dashboard doesn't give the option to change HD settings unless an HD cord is plugged in. I went in under the composite and couldn't change anyhing. So i memorized the key sequence to get back to the HD options, plugged in the component cables and went in blind. The options would change but the screen wouldn't. Then again, maybe I'm missing something, since i'm working with no video (an extra confirmation screen, etc)

In any case, I've resigned myself to composite. If anyone out there is playing with component cords (which, i apologize, are HD), is using a non-HD TV, and succesfully booted SID4.5, let me know, maybe theres something I'm missing.

Thanks for all the help, this is like the most active and insightful xbox forum on the net.
