As instructed I've copied the contents of my box's C: & E: drives & the EEPROM settings to my pc & used xboxhdm 1.9 to produce an ISO file that I've burnt to cd.
I then hooked up the new hdd to my pc & loaded up the boot disc. The disc booted to the main HD Maker screen fine.
I selected option '1' (boot VGA consle with Xbox-drive Utilities) but rather than getting to the next prompt where you type in 'xboxhd' I'm receiving this error message:
'You Passed An Undefined Mode Number'
I can't get any further and am really not sure what the message means. I'm guessing the boot disc isn't the problem as it booted up ok?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok so your saying u transferd your C E and EEPROM to xboxhdm1.9 on its perspective folders?
so your sure u just typed 1 then enter? did u re try a couple of times and same error?
sounds like the xboxhdm1.9 is wrong SO RE DOWNLOAD xboxhdm1.9 and transfer your C on xboxhdm C and your E on its E and your eeprom on its eeprom....
what softmod you have? why cuz the C can be fake as a shadow C or maybe its real.. so what softmod you have? _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

Hi,
Yep, I'm only typing in 1 and then pressing enter. I've tried it a few times with the same error each time.
I copied C, E & EEPROM to their respective folders within XBOXHDM (e.g. the contents of my C: to XBOXHDM/LINUX/C) so that doesn't seem to be the problem.
I'll try downloading xboxhdm 1.9 again just in case and repeat the steps to see if this helps.
btw I softmodded using a hacked Splinter Cell save & Auto Installer Deluxe (v2.0 I think).

When it comes up saying you have an "unidentified mode number" or whatever, try hitting the spacebar. My friend had that problem to, something with his video card. He would hit spacebar and it would continue to load. Let me know if that's it. _________________ XBOX v1.6c

You may want to try Option 2. It will go into Text mode, and won't load the VGA driver. Not to mention everything is bigger! _________________ I think I like fixing Boxes more than using them!

Thanks for the suggestion T-Rizzle.
I tried pressing space & it started displaying a ton of 'diagnostic' info (what sound drivers were installed, usb ports, hard drive size etc.) but then it hung.
If I press 'enter' instead of 'space' I'm presented with a list of available Video MODES (0,1...thru 6). Tried choosing each in turn but it does the same thin.
Looks like it might be a video card problem. I'll try and borrow another pc and see if that makes a difference (fingers crossed).

Just getting the same diagnostic stuff I was getting when I hit 'space' after the error message in Option 1. It does look bigger though

Hey guys,
Just thought I'd let you know that I've now been able to upgrade my hdd successfully.
The problem was indeed to do with the video card on my pc (I only have onboard graphics). I tried running the boot disc on another pc fitted with a basic (32mb) video card and it worked perfectly.
