Ok, so the only reason I know anything about this is because my friend told me one day about what he had on his x-box. Something like "every nintendo game ever" or something like that. He also told me about how much he spent to have this done, like $150 installation fee (ripoff) and all this other stuff. Well, I am sure this is posted a million times, but what exactly does a mod chip do, and do I need one to play these games on my x-box, or could I download one of these programs and thats all I need. Also, I figure once I get into this more I will need a larger harddrive for my xbox, but if I just wanted a nintendo game or a PS1 game, what would I need. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you will need a modchip. A modchip mods your Xbox of course lol. It allows you to play backed up games, it allows you to store games straight onto your HDD, permitting the HDD is large enough. The stock HDD of the Xbox holds 5gig or so...not too much space really. And what your friend has is an emulator which allows you to play roms....roms are the actually games. You can get them(emulators and roms)for most of the older systems like NES, SNES, Atari, arcade games, Game Gear, Game Boy, etc. I think you get the idea lol. There is so much to cover on the capabilities of your xbox once its modded, its crazy. You can even get the weather report on it lol. There is much I have not covered and other members will be sure to help you out and take it from where I left off. I'll send you a PM with some good info in it as well. ttyl. _________________ SE Halo Xbox v1.4 :

hi ReDJeLLo1803 and welcome to xbox-hq mate..
i like your honesty heheh lol:

Ok so here ya go..
A modchip when installed correctly bypasses the original XBOX motherboard bios and uses its own onboard modcihp bios to boot the xbox.. Most modchips (nearly all) come with switches so you can turn the modchip on and off so you can still play XBOX LIVE..
** You cannot play XBOX LIVE with your modchip turned on it will ban your XBOX forever.
Normally when you buy a modchip it is shipped with a LEGAL BIOS.. This bios is called the 'CROMWELL BIOS'.. This bios will not boot backup games, homebrew apps or emulators.. Its only used to BOOT XBOX LINUX and LINUX APPS on your xbox.. THATS WHY ITS LEGAL!
So once you install your modchip and turn it on your xbox will probably ask for a bios boot cd (depending on which chip you choose to install).. Then you will have to find a hacked m$ bios and flash your modcihp with it by copying it onto a cdrw and flashing from your xbox dvdrom drive..
With a modchip fitted and active with a Hacked M$ Bios you can play everything from homebrew emulators (SNES, N64, PSX), homebrew apps (XBMC, RegionFreeDVD, etc) and other cool stuff.
AFTER INSTALLING YOUR MODCHIP AND WORKING OK:
You can then upgrade your HDD to anything like 250gb or bigger really if you want but you need to have the latest bios on your modchip because if you run a older bios it will only use 120gb of the HDD you install..
Our xbox-hq autoinstaller will format/partition and copy the evox dashboard and a m$ dashboard automatically at the click of a button on your xbox.. Your just download our auto installer from our VIP Downloads section and burn it to dvd-r/cdrw and boot it in yuor modded xbox..
Well, I'm quick to pickup on stuff normally, but I thought since it was such a small file, I mean, it might be alot of games but they were what? 8bit? That they could fit on the xbox harddrive. There is no way to "flash" the bios on the xbox without the mod chip.. meh... its only $40? haha, like I have a job... I'M IN COLLEGE HERE, NOT THE REAL WORLD. Anyway, could someone elaborate upon the word "flash?" I get the general gist of what it is, but I am not sure I completely understand. Also another question that I thought I knew the answer to, but then came across some forum posts that gave me doubt... Is there a mod-chip that requires NO SOLDERING AT ALL? Again, this goes back to me being "lazy and cheap." Also, where could I get a mod-chip? Do I need to buy it online or can I zip up to best buy and get one? And also, this is me begging, if anyone has an extra xbox controller or two that they could send me it would be greatly appreciated. My two got ripped from my dorm room I was planning on just getting two new ones when I went to get the mod chip, but if they don't sell the mod chip...
Thanks for your consideration, and there are 1001 more questions that I have to ask

Yes, there are nonsoldering modchips out there. And no you cant get them at a Best Buy lol. To my knowledge a modchip can only be purchased online. _________________ SE Halo Xbox v1.4 :

hey mate,
Flashing your modchip means:
To copy a file into the permanent memory of the modchip.
You flash (copy) a bios.bin file to a cdr with to flash most modchips then when your xbox starts with the modchip enabled it boots and will ask for the flash disk..
Other modchips like the aladdinlive use a programmer to flash the modchip.. It transfers the files directly from your pc to the modchip.
well, money is an issue with me, and I have read some stuff on "soft-modding" my xbox... is that a good idea?

Yes, you can soft-mod your xbox but from what I have read you might lose some functionality. The soft-mod needs a fake game-save that takes advantage of a flaw in Mechassault or 007. You friend will have to help you because you will need another xbox that is modded in order to get the game saves onto a memory card. If you use Mechassault it will have to be the version that isn't Platinum or Game of the Year, those have been patched, I think.
I like my Xecuter2 Lite+ (solderless) chip. Little preparation is needed to install/remove it. I recommend getting the programmer too because you'll need it if your flash goes bad. The flash goes bad because the bios on the chip has to be erased before the new one can be put on it. If you get a power surge or you accidentally push a button or something (yes, it does happen) you will be S.O.L. if you don't have a programmer because the chip wont have a bios anymore.
I have used The Console Corner.com and The Modchip Man for my purchases. Price came at the expense of professionalism when I used the console corner. I got an email saying the item was shipped, but no tracking number, I was pissed. The modchip man is a little more expensive, but they are more professional. I would use them again for sure.
You are looking at roughly $50 for the Lite+, about $30 for the programmer, and $10 for the must-have VIP membership here at XBOX-HQ. _________________ XBOX v1.1 - Philips DVD

So, This is another random question, before I decide to do the mod chip or the soft mod or anything, is there a way for me to, no matter what, wipe the harddrive on the xbox clean and "re-virginize" it? I mean, short of installation errors, or crazy with the soldering, if it just software problems, I can recover my Xbox... is there anything I can do to make it a paperweight?

From what I know you can always recover your hd if something happens to it. All you need is someone with a modded box and an auto-installer that that will format the drive and restore it to factory settings.
If you damage your motherboard during installation your xbox will be useless unless you buy another board, so you have to be careful.
Your previous post is a little confusing. I hope this answered you question. _________________ XBOX v1.1 - Philips DVD
