Hi all forgive my ignorance.
I have been reading up on softmodding for my kids xbox.
I have absolutely no clue as what to do and how to go about doing it.
Its like reading egyptian hieroglyphics to me. Is there anywhere I can get a how-to for extreme dummies for setting this thing up???
I want to be able to use the features of playing dvd's without the dang remote and being able to put some games on the original hd to play them off of it.
If anyone can lend me a hand in this matter, I would appreciate it

download and install sid4....then download XED and install XBMC as dash and dvd2xbox as app....and away you go....

Its Safer to use Nknaves SID 4, Its easy and fool proof and used in combination of AID 2.11 and XED you will have on sweet system. _________________

Ok im in the midst of downloading the nknave sid 4 off a torrent site.
Looks like its going to be awhile as there does not seem to be any seeders. I will look at that when it finishes and get back to you

Its nice to know that you're doing something for your kids... Anyways.. after you have it downloaded... you will notice that there are 7 files.. There is a main installer file and 2 files for each exploitable game( 007, Splinter Cell, and Mechassault). Leave those files here for now. You now have to purchase either the mega x key, action replay, or gameshark. I suggest actiion replay because thats what i use. If you don't own any of these games, you need to purchase one. I suggest splinter cell because all versions work with it adn the others are iffy's and you need the right version. Lets assume you got splinter cell, you get the main installer file and the splinter cell (NTSC for American xboxs and Pal for European) and put it on the memory card. You should read the action replay manuel and it'll all come together..... Trust me... I was a nooby about a month ago After you transferred the files to your memory card, copy the files onto your xbox hard drive. Run the game and try to load a gamesave and you should see linux. Boot that and SID 4.0 menu will come up. Make sure you use create ms backup, eeprom backup, and then install softmod. The mod backup is optional. After you do that, your eeprom and everything should be patched. There you go.... Your xbox is now softmodded.... If this is too complicated for you.... Just read the manuel thats come along wit it. one thing ya forgot to mention you have to modify your memory card to get those game saves onto the memory card _________________

I've never heard of that.. Action replay memory cards are designed to take those gamesaves. I've tried to put them on regular memory cards and they seem to also work.... Just get action replay and everything will be settled.

what you got your memory card pre loaded with exploit? You didnt adapt your memory card to hook up to a PC to transfer the gamesave exploits to it. _________________

Nope..... When you buy action replay, you get a usb/memory card converter and the memory card. I just saved the gamesave and transferred over, and after i transferred it over to my xbox, I just tried to transfer it to a regular memory card via xbox and it still worked. I'm assuming you made your own device or something?

Well, there doesnt seem to be any seeders for sid4 so I was able to locate sid3. would this be about the same?

SID3 is a good softmod...for the more advanced modders. It allows you to be able to do more customizing of your xbox. You can edit the menus to make it child (or newbie) friendly. SID4 does that for you and also limits access to the more vunerable areas of the xbox. I would use SID4 for your kid's box...to be on the safe side. _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS
