Posted: Tue Jan 10, 2006 3:35 am Post subject: Error 21 on M$ Dash & 06 on HD upgrade.
After reading all the benefits of modding the xbox I finally took the plunge and went through with a Softmod using SC gave saves. I use the dual boot functions in order to maintain my XBL account.
Everything was working with MSDash (pressing eject button) & Evo X (power button) until I tried to install a Xbox wireless network adapter (MN-740). Big mistake..!!!
Since then I can no longer load the MSdash. It generates a #21 error. I am still able to access Evo X and FTP access. I have tried to replace my C partition on the xbox with my backup on the PC via FTP. but no go.. Any suggestions??
Aside from trying to fix/correct the error 21. I tried to upgrade to a WD 250 HD using XBOXHDM using my backup partitions (C & E, and EEPROM). Followed the instructions, and locked the drive with 'lockhd -a'. Once I popped the new HD, upon booting I get an error 06..
What should be my next step to fix this? Ultimately I want to install the new HD, softmodded.
I have read searched and read numerous post regarding this issue. It seems like error 21 is generated by an incompatible .XBE file. What I don't understand in my situation is that I overwrote the whole C partition with my backup (done after the softmod). and it is still not working..
As well, I don't know what I'm doing wrong to case error 06 on the new HD.. I'm almost certain that the eeprom is correct and the HD is locked! Would error 21 on the MS dash, cause the 06 error upgrading..?

i think sid4 is the latest softmod installer , use it _________________ Xbox v1.0/1.1/1.5/1.6a

i did use SID4 for the softmod. did you mean to use it to Uninstall.?

there should be an option to reeinstall original msdash ,

I would suggest starting over with HDM 1.9, The new MSDASH files (^), and Pirrup's Hotswap Tutorial (^), unless you have something you need to save.
I have found in my years of computing that there's nothing like a good REFORMAT to make things better! -Lee _________________ I think I like fixing Boxes more than using them!

I did what was suggested. and it worked. Thanks so much guys..!!!
Here's a quick rundown in case someone gets the same error I did.
- Loaded the gamesave exploit from SC, got to the SID4 menu
- used the 'Restore MSDASH' function, this brought back my MSDash.
- Reinstalled the Softmod using SID, as once the MSDash was restored my softmod is gone.
- Rebuild ISO using xboxhdm using the C / E / Eeprom after the softmod.
- Hooked up the 250 gb hd to PC as Master, booted up xboxhdm, followed thru with the instrucitons. and finally locked drive.
= Working Xbox softmodded with new harddrive..
