Ok I have an xbox that will power on then shut off then power on and shut off 3 times and then just shut off completely. It does not goto an error code screen or anything. anyone else here have any ideas what could cause this?

if you have a modchip, the bios is likely corrupt, either that or the D0 pin is inserted into the wrong via on the motherboard _________________ XCM Halo 2 blue case

If it was the power supply it wouldn't even go on, check on tutorials section and it will explain what the lights means, but for me this sounds like a bad bios flash to chip or TSOP. I had this issue once before with an xbox 1.6b using the SmartXX v2 chip, i forgot to solder 1 point close to the lpc port and it would do this.
Please give more info on your posts, it's hard to say what it really is. _________________ Xbox v1.1

Thanx for the fast response guys...
the xbox is in route...just bought yesterday....The guy did say the modchip went bad and his little brother cut all the mod-chip wires and ripped off the modchip....so its probably just the bios corrupt then.....will have to look at the mobo once it gets here and clean up all the solder and throw on another chip.....
anyone know a place to grab a cheap mod-chip shipped
and GOAT wassup man...get at me about the case/paint job! lol

Pretty much any place you can grab an Aladdin XT (Just use froogle ) I actually ran into a nice seller, AladdinXT for 14.95 (i think) plus shipping. Nice thing is, if you have a Jtag (solderless adapter) it's fully compatible. Lemmie see if I can't find the link...
Tell 'em James sent ya I just actually started talkin to 'em, and they're very nice as far as quick responses to your questions. And as far as I know, that chip is easy as hell to solder in. Also, compatible with ALL xbox versions and Live !!!! _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."

A buddy of mine had the same problem.. I ended up finding that one of the traces off the Nvidia chip on the main board had been ripped off from a bad mod chip removal. I went and soildered a new trace and fixed the problem. hope this helps

Ok I got the xbox in today. Guy was nice enough to speed up shipping for free , bought thursday got monday
Seems like the top of the board is all clean just still has the adapter soldered into the LPC ... I am still new to all the lpc/D0/tsop stuff but looking on the bottom of the board there is 5 wires coming from the LPC and soldered to different points.
1 pic is clean but dark , other is blurry but light...sorry got a shitty digi cam
My question is what would be the best way to go about getting rid of all the wires and solder and trying to restore "retail" state. Would I be better off just buying a new 1.6 mobo due to my lack of knowledge and skills? If so does anyone here wanna buy this mobo and repair it? Also it came w/ the 2.3b lite chip that looks fine just all the wires were cut. I would include that in the sale or trade of this mobo. PM or post offers....
Thnx for all your help guys

I have the same symptoms on several versions of the X3 Bios that I've tried. I kept trying different bios loads until I found a couple that work. I get approx these results:
80% of the bios versions I've tried just power up, then back down
10% do the up/down three times thing
10% work just fine.
I may have something wrong in my soldering, but it seems like none of them would work, rather than som of them if the chip wasn't installed properly.
Mine required the 1.6PCB rebuild, but I used X3's little rebuild board which helped find the right points. I looked around for quite a while before finding a great PDF tutorial from Team XEcuter. _________________ Halo Edition XBox 360 + Todd McFarlane Controllers
