I am trying to mod a version 1.4 with a spider chip, and put the chip into the x-box and it boots up the same way as if there was no chip in it. It comes up the the normal dashboard when you don't have a game in it. It's almost like the x-box isn't recognizing that there is a chip there.
Can anyone help me out

well, the questions really are the following.
1.- have your flashed a bios into it?
2.- have you configured it to load your flashed bios instead or original?
3.- if you do have bios flashed, then you need to install a dashboard, and other stuff in it.
The chip itself will not give you everything, the chip will only carry the hacked bios to be loaded before the original bios, and this way, it allows you to run unsigned code, by doing this, you should be able to boot backups, and installer discs like AID, now if you can boot AID disc, simply install stuff from it, and it should work like normal. _________________ Xbox v1.1

No I have not flashed A bios onto the spiderchip, It is supposed to have a modified cromwell bios on it. but I want to flash the 256kb evox m8plus bios onto it. once I get that onto it I want to put the AID onto it to unlock a 200GB MAxtor HDD.

cromwell flashbios i assume. that's only to load linux, so yes, you mut flash with new bios, also make sure of the bank size, if your banks are 256k, then you flash a 256k bios.
AID doesn't unlock your hdd, and why unlock the 200gig, you mean lock, cause you don't need to unlock unless it's from another xbox, then if you must unlock with the other xbox, or other xboxe's eeprom file and a disc.
If this 200 gig your talking about is new, or just used in PC, all you have to do, is flash new bios, pop in new hdd, format it with AID, and install all you want.
I do recomend you to install MS Dash even if you don't want to use it, this is good, cause sometimes your xbox will call it, for some games, or to set your clock, you don't want to run into error 16, with no ms dash. _________________ Xbox v1.1

I'm sure that the bank is 256 so I am going to use the 256, but When the chip is in the x-box the x-box boots up as if I haven't done anything to it, so I don't know how to flash the chip from the screen that says settings memory, etc. (the normal screen when there is no disc in it) Yeah I have a brand new HDD ANd want to format it once I have the chip flashed with the bios but I can't get to the black spiderchip screen where it asks you to flash the chip. What DO I do?

I am using a few SpiderChips, and let me say..it's the worst chip I've ever run across.
I'm currently modding an XBox for a friend..it's a 1.5 with a Spider. The spider in this XBox is VERY picky on it's location. I can get it to boot to the Spider flash menu if I hold the chip in with my fingers and don't screw it in..the screw holes DO NOT line up. once you put the screw in, it moves the chip and breaks the connection and the XBox boots like no chip in.
It's going to take you some time to align it right...if you hold it in with just your fingers and turn the xbox on, you should get the flash menu, Once you get that, you'll spend hours trying to get it to stay there and keep contact. I've tried double stick tape, double stick foam..you name it..I'm now on day 4 of a 1.0 XBox, and day 2 of the 1.5 XBox.
Good luck. (By the way..yes, it takes a 256 BIOS..I'm using a custom version of the EvoX M
