Hello,
First off, xbox-hq.com is great and this xbox softmod stuff is really exciting.
I've successfully softmodded my xbox using "softmod installer 1.01, great tutorial. Now I would like to put a segate 160 gig drive in but with out having to put the new drive into a pc box, which i don't have. I have a pc laptop with a cd burner. I am currently downloading the Auto-Installer.Deluxe.v1.01.XISO.Xbox-Hq on Bittorrent but it's really slow....
What is the simplest way I can upgrade to a 160 gig drive on a soft modded Xbox? Will the Auto-Installer.Deluxe work this?
thanks,
Steffy

As far as I know, the only way to do this, is to put the new hard drive into either a chipmodded xbox, or into a PC. I prefer the PC method, as it can be done in about 30min or so and is pretty straight forward. I don't know of any way to do it with a laptop, as the programs for the PC expect the hard drive to be the primary master.
Do you by any chance have a chipped box around anywhere? Or atleast access to a Desktop PC? All you will need to do to the PC is take the side off, unplug the ribbon and power cables from all hard drives, then plug in the new hard drive.
Start the machine, and boot off of the cd, and you are on your way to having a larger hard drive. _________________

Yes you should use xboxhdm 1.9 to make the cd and any software for burning cd's will do fine. Just make sure to copy your eeprom file to the folder named eeprom so that you don't have any problems when you get to the locking the hd part. _________________ 2 Xbox V 1.0

Well, I made the Xboxhdm CD with eeprom, built the drive from scratch, but there are a couple of problems when I attempt to lock the drive.
1. My keboard will not work on the opening screen after boot from cd so i cannot chose any option (like Lock/Unlock)other than default (no 1) which is Xboxhdm tools.
2. Made a floppy of dos and Unlock/lock tools but the floopy will not boot.
It says "Boot record from floppy..OK
Non-system disk
Press any key to reboot
Thanks for any help.....

You must have a problem with the way the system prepares the usb for the software. Check your bios and check if it says something like boot to a pnp operating system, if it is check as yes change it to no or viceversa.
If there is another option that says something about usb (can't remember the exact option) let me know. Sometimes linux is a litlle picky about usb devices as mice and keyboard and the hdm is just a scaled down version of linux. Let me know what happens, I will be around. If you can send me an email to velayo@gmail.com.
Pd. I just bought my first Mac. I'm playing with it, have you used any xbox related software with yours? _________________ 2 Xbox V 1.0

Thanks guys for everything....I successfully locked the the drive. I bought a Logetech keyboard with ps2 and i was able to pick lock/unlock using Dos option on the first screen of xboxhdm 1.9. It gave me a Dos prompt (A:\) and i typed "dir" and it gave me a list of commands on the floppy....it was butter from there......then I put the drive in the Xbox, turn it on and Bamn!! it worked....Exciting.
Next mission is to play xbox live with a softmod or turn it off then play....any ideas?
Thanks again.

Hi Steffy,
We have alot of members here who will be looking to do the same as you in the near future so any chance of some links to tutorials you used etc etc??
If you want.. You can just go into the tutorials section and write a quick new tutorial on how to upgrade a hdd in a softmodded xbox.
Personally ive never even done a softmod but will be looking into them in the near future after the release of DJB's softmod installer.

Pretty sure that you won't be able to play on Xbox Live with a softmodded xbox, at least not for very long. See, after awhile live will noticed that your bios is hacked and ban you from their service. The only way around that would be to do a rebuild of the hd to a factory state, which would kind of defeat the point of modding it in the first place. The only other way that I'm aware of doing this would be to buy the Xtender kit and install 2 drives, one retail and one additional one (hacked) and do it that way, but even then it may not work.
When it comes down to it, you're going to need a chip if you want to play on xbox live while maintaining your modded machine. I know there's a lot of questions about that in the softmod section so I'd do some searching in there but I'm sure you'll find the same answer. Hope that helps. _________________ XBOX v1.6c

I tried to upgrade my hard drive to an 80gb seagate with xboxhd, but it did not work. I made the hd master and booted of the cd. Everything went fine. It copied c and e and made an f. Then is said that the drive was locked. When i went to put it into my xbox and start it up, the light flashes red/green. I put it back into the computer and made sure that it was locked and all. Then tried it again. Same problem. Anyone got a solution??
Thanks
