hey! i'm newly registered to the forums, but have been reading them extensively recently. yesterday i was softmodding my xbox and came across this problem... i formatted the partitions and was about to put the MSdash back on the drive C, and all of a sudden we had a brown out at my house. so off went the power, along with my half-modded xbox and all my servers in the house. i was pissed. i booted up my xbox again with the AID 2.11 disc still in it. i get msg 13. it can't boot into the MSdash obviously because i didn't get a chance to copy it back over, i can obviously still play games, but no dash, no live, etc. i searched and came across pirrup's hotswap article and decided to give it a try. i opened up my xbox and one of my pc's. i went step-by-step through the tutorial to try and save my HDD (probably about 20+ times trying to time step 9 correctly). i get all the way to step 11 (pressing option 1). it then states "you passed an undefined mode number" and for me to press return, space or wait 30 seconds. so i wait 30 seconds, it then starts to boot and comes to the command prompt, i type 'xboxhd' and it then searches my IDE devices. then it comes to a msg that states "this script assumes /dev/hda is the device to be used for creating or rescueing an xbox harddrive. no disk drive found on /dev/hda (primary master). shotdown, connect a drive and reboot". i've tried this part about 10 times and get the same msg. once the xbox boots without the DVD and HDD plugged in, sometimes it will show msg 11 or msg 12, or just the xbox logo till i reboot it. could this possibly be a cabling/IDE issue? locked/other HDD issue? your response is greatly appreciated.
ps: it's a good (although not really) thing this is my spare xbox for LAN parties, i'd be flipping out if i was without one for more than 12 hours.

Problems/Solutions/mb???
if you used a gamesave to install the softmod, and you still have it in your xbox hdd, then put that game you use to softmod, boot the gamesave, and look around for stuff.
don't just redo softmod like ppl say, because it's possible that your retail files could be lost, so first use the file manager/explorer to see what files are in C and E, and if you have your ms dash files, restore C like retail and such, then, you can redo the softmod, or use ftp.
hotswap mb?

i would, but i formatted ALL the HDD's before the power went out and i even got a chance to copy the MSdash over, so none of the gamesaves are even on the xbox now. and there's no way for me to copy them there without the dash. and i'm not sure if the error msg i'm getting from the hotswap is normal for some people or not. i couldn't find any documentation out there if you get any errors during the hotswap. i google'd that msg and came up empty. i think my last resort is maybe a mod-chip to restore it completely.
