i saw online somewhere that certain files can be removed from game folders. i am wondering if 'demo' files can be removed if you don't plan on accessing them.

I don't see why not. It may take some trial and error, but I think you'll be fine.

Let us know how it goes

good news. i ftp'd halo (without the game demos) to my xbox and fired it up. now, instead of 4 options (campaign, multi, settings, demos) there are only 3 (demos is not there). if the game plays as normal halo can lose a lot of weight (1.3Gs).

Good goin Cheez...I kinda thought it would be okay. That is good news for anyone that's also trying to backup larger games to DVDR.

hi,

good work.. Ive been relinking and downlsizing movies for ages now..
Most rip groups like: RIOT do the same.

They normally remove the xbox demos and alot of other crap you dont need.

One tip:
If you have heaps ok .bik movies and one is called intro.bik normally the intro.bik is the smallest out of all movies files. You can (to save space) copy this intro.bik file as many times as you want and rename it to the same filename you are replacing..

So, Instead of loading huge movie intros it just constantly boots say the microsoft logo.. (this saves tonnes of space) You could maybe even fit your game then onto cdrw or cd-r.

just my 10 cents

I also do a lot of resizing of games, the best way like said is to remove non-needed data from the game (like non-english data files, demos etc.)

Ofcourse there is also BIK / XMV (Movie file) resizing but this should only really be used as a last resort.

I'm not much of a fan of replacing large movie files with a small one though, as it can really ruin the game atmosphere when playing.

Here's a site for you to have a look at: http://rahszhul.jonmega.com/. it has a list of games and what files can be removed.
