Are you attempting to ftp through a usb port? Otherwise, the ethernet adapter must be used and if so needs a driver not only for the internet but to communicate period. Without a driver, it's just a plugged in piece of metal.

I understand about the driver. but do i in need it in order to copy the files over from the xbox? what does it have to do with copying over the files? my router sees the xbox i am using the right ip from the xbox and the quix is on my pc I am not connecting through the ethernet card but through the router so why wond it work thanks for your helI had read your email

Ok so I understand how the xbox is set up to the router and the pc is set up to the router, so what are you using to connect your pc to the router?
USB or Ethernet connector or even something else? What hardware is it that lets your pc talk to the router.

Are you using XP? if yes, then disable the Firewall before you start FTP.
Firewall does not allow unauthorized sockets.
Hope this may help.

If you don't have a driver, your ethernet card is useless. Regardless of how you have it set up. Like Shark2th said, how do you connect your PC to your router. That is the crucial question.

If you connect through your card then unless you get the driver, you can't connect. We need this info in order to give you the answer that you need.
