Hi,
Just bought the MagicBox XFPS adapter which allows us to connect a regular set of PS/2 mouse and keyboard to the XBox. It is primarily aimed at First Person Shooter (FPS) type of gamers to use a PC-type Man-Machine Interface hardware to provide more versatility in movements and character control.
In my case, I thought I would use that adapter for developement purposes... I've got the XDK, and MSVS-7.net which I started to use to develop software on XBox just for the fun of it. I hope to be able to use the keyboard and mouse in a standard fashion... You see, the XFPS adapter only remaps the joystick functions onto some of the keyboard buttons, and translates or remaps mouse mouvements into thumb controller events... It does not allow entering text like a regular keyboard in text fields or use the mouse to control a pointer type on the screen!!! I might be wrong cause I just got it and haven't tried everything with it yet... I'll keep this forum up to date!
Hope it can be hacked too.... Anyone as any thoughts on this adapter???
Thanks

hi,
Yes i was interested in that too.. But ive never gotten around to getting one..
Does it work nicely?? Ive always wondered..
More the likely you are right i would say when you said that you cant use the keyboard as normal.. I bet the joystick is remapped jst like you mention..
anyway, hopefully someone else has got some input who has one of these suckers.

Hi tried it a bit more... and it does provide a few (3 in fact) modes of keyboard emulation and the mouse does control the eye point (right thumb control) pretty accurately. The major differences between these three modes relate more or less to the A-B-X-Y buttons and the white-black little buttons... The rest is standard: left pad control replaced by keyboard arrows, and the left thumb control replaced by A-W-S-D keys on keyboard.
I tried to compile and execute the debug keyboard and debug mouse test programs that come with the XDK... with no success unfortunately. Keyboard does nothing... I think that the debug keyboard and mouse that the developpers use on the Dev Kits are connected to the additional board in the XBox which provides USB, Serial and Scsi ports and this connects to the LPC connector on the motherboard. So essentially, those debug keyboard and mouse are not connected to the USB ports by default... explaining why the XFPS does not generates key codes.
I'm a bit disapointed since I wanted to use this adapter in my own software... Dunno yet if it can be done, and which software functions to call to trap those keys... I assume that USB port programming will be required...

I coded some XDK a while ago now and learnt quite alot.. lol
You can code for a keyboard just fine but it must be a USB keyboard connected using a usb connector on your xbox..
You can buy the usb or make your own..
Just while we are on the subject of coding.. I have a project (still not started) of coding a xbox magazine which will display data and images etc on your xbox directly from the HQ website.
I did get some basic code working and text displaying but left it at that..
just wondering if your interested in projects here on hq??
I already have my own shitty intro that i coded too with some code you could compile to help you learn.
